Lesson Learned...
My daughter learned tonight reaction is as important as action. If not more important.
However I learned that 14-year old boys can still be cruel and hateful - a strange way of showing a girl they like her - they don't realize the pain it causes.

Just one time...
Just one time could a man flirt with me who is not old enough to be my father, not married, and can speak English?
Today at lunch - my 40ish something waiter -could not speak English clearly - however, he flirted and flirted.
Now don't get me wrong, I am flattered - but heck fire - I want to know what he was saying!
I understood, pretty eyes and come back.
I will say it again....Just one time could a man flirt with me not be old enough to be my father or grandfather (I blame Viagra for this), not married (don't even get me started - I end up lecturing them), and can speak English?
Or maybe I should learn a 2nd even 3rd language...think of the possibilities.

New use for old phone books (or even new phone books)
With my job, we are two offices ( two publications) in one building. Between the two offices, we have several phone and fax lines. And the phone company, (and I kid you not) gives us on the average of 3 phone books (yellow and white pages) per line - on my side there are 9 - so you do the math.
These phone books pile up - we feel guilty if we chunk them, so we stack them up.
Well, my son's teacher sent a note home, needing old phone books. I was so excited - and my fellow office manager was too! They are in my back seat - ready for delivery. Finally they are out of the office.
They will use them to learn how to look things up. Good thing. Because my daughter couldn't find her own name in the phone book.
Don't know why I thought this was interesting - just seemed kind of cool to finally get them out of my office.

Ministry
I had the pleasure of sitting down with someone the other day who was sweet enough to prepare a light meal for me and my children before Kid's choir the other night. She wanted to find out about Kid's Choir and what I see happening with it. And how our ministry has stayed strong.
First of all, by no means am I an expert. I just love what I do. I love Jesus and I love kids. It's not about me, it's about God.
That is the first rule to any ministry. It's about God. Keep the focus on Him.
Understand you will have off nights/days. Be flexible. Don't let the frustration block your service.
Recruit an AWESOME team. And I have one.
For the ministry leader. Never ask of your team something you would not do yourself. Whether it is working, painting, bagging garbage, cooking, gluing leaves to headbands or giving. If you don't do it, then don't ask your team to do it.
If you want your team to be there at 5:45 -then you should be be there at 5:20 to set up for them. You could not do what you do without them.
If you are working with kids - again-flexibility is key. But a schedule is important.
Plan
Pray
Remember the first rule...It's all about God.
Laundry....
Okay Missouri Becky....
Explain to me how laundry that the youngest female member was supposed to fold and put away ended up wrapped in a quilt, stuffed under the bed behind a box of movies? Didn't that take more work than the "fold and put away part?"
And most of it was mine!
I give up, I really do.

AARP and Walmart
My sister called me with the funniest story.
(to set the stage...she is 13 years older than me)
She was in Walmart the other day - an employee started talking - how Senior Citizens receive discounts, etc on certain items or days (I don't know details on the when and what of the discounts-no emails please). And then she looked my sister and said, and today those 60 and over will receive a free donut.
My sister is not 60. (thank goodness that would be put me at 47) My sister looked at the lady and said "I don't eat donuts." She was so mad - and wondered "Why did that woman feel the need to tell me about the donut?"
And she has learned she qualifies for AARP benefits - she is chaning over some life insurance-because of the price difference.
She said the was going to need strong therapy after filling out all the paperwork.
She has been in denial about her age for so long...she was starting to believe it.
I told her to get a donut and fill out the papers.

Freezing.
There's that word again, I was told yesterday I am the master of freezing men out.
Let me take my bow now.
I don't like to consider it freezing men out, I like to think of it as, not being interested. Being choosy.
I don't need a man. I am waiting for the right one, at the right time, God's time.
(and yes I know I still struggle with loneliness and the stress of single parenting - but I know it is all in God's timing)
With all the above said, I wish I understood everything.

"Am I the worst player on the team?"
This is what my daughter asked me today after soccer practice. She has only played once before - and that was with church this past fall. She is not that experienced.
She is worried. She was not as aggressive today as she was on the church team.
This is a co-ed team. Church team was all girls.
No, she wasn't the worst player- none were bad-I am proud of her for trying - she has more gutso and courage than I did at that age.
This is a co-ed team - she is shaving her legs as I type.

I love my friends...and this is one of the many reasons:
I received this from my friend A.B. - thanks girl!
just read your last few blogs - I am writing to let you know that IT WILL BE OK - because, once I find a man S.H. and I find worthy of you and he passes a background check, in depth physical, psych consult and friend questioning approved by the FBI and CIA we will plan all the necessary showers and parties to welcome him into our little crew. In the meantime, I am checking out all eligible looking guys !!!!
Have a good day cause we got your back girl :)

The Loneliness is Back.
The loneliness is back, I have no idea why, but it is. And I have been swamped this weekend-so it is not stemmed from boredom.
Loneliness it is hard. I was in Wal-mart today and saw a man check out with about 5 microwave dinners, one of those half-loaves of bread, and three apples. Somehow that hurt my heart.
I just wish, no long for someone to care about my day, to hold me for just a few minutes at least. To hear that it will be okay.

How do you explain?
How do you explain to your friends who do not have children, the obligations of soccer, flag football, student choir, science projects and Augmentin? And when you do try - how do you keep from upsetting them?
How do you explain to one of your best friends, that it is time to let go - and you encourage to do so - because you care?
How do you explain to the folks you live with, to turn the heat down, if you are cold, put on a sweater and short sleeves when it is hot? And when they don't do this you have $333 electric bill?
How do you explain timing to your heart?
How do you explain your paycheck cycle and lack of child support to the electric company?
How do you explain to the pharmacy, they really need to hurry because your son's asthma has surfaced in a big way? And to the guy behind you, that though in some small way you are flattered, you are not interested without being rude?
How do you explain some friendships you don't even understand?
How do you explain the American Idol results?(for the record I am finished with this show)
How do you explain how the City of Memphis will spend money on stadiums, pandas, music festivals, but not on their schools? Furthermore how can I get on the VIP list? (for those not from Elvisville - research MLGW, Memphis, Willie Herrington, The Ford Family, The Tennessee Waltz, etc, etc, etc,)
How do you explain how we as Christians don't make our voices louder?
How do you explain how I slept with a Hot Wheel car and helicopter last night, and didn't know it? (They were in between the sheet and quilt)
I could keep going........

Cat A, DNA, Time Change, Strep Throat, and Zoloft.
Yeah, buddy bet that title caught your eye.
Here we go...Cat A - English/Reading project for my son - involving a book by Dr. Seuss. Due on the 16th- but thankfully it is finished. It was instructed to be a "family project." We made Cat A from a paper plate, red and white construction paper, wiggle eyes, pipe cleaner, a ton of glue and tape, and of course crayons.
DNA - my daughter is doing a report on DNA for science. Has she worked on it, no, of course not. And it is my fault.
Strep Throat. Both of my kids had it. For my son, you add double ear infection. And the doctors want me to schedule appointments to see about having his tonsils removed.
Zoloft. My mother ran out. Can't let that happen.
I'm telling you, this Becky needs a vacation in a big way.

Boxing up memories
I know two people right now who are boxing up memories.
Boxing up for different reasons, but it is still painful for them. One wants to forget and the other feels guilty for moving on.
I don't like looking back. No, let me rephrase that, I hate looking back, I don't even like looking at photo albums, yearbooks, old home movies, etc.
However, if I could somehow go back....
This is what I would the tell the girl that used to be me:
1) Try more things - don't give up so easily.
2) Finish college - finish college - finish college - don't give up.
3) Don't get married at 19 - if you don't you will accomplish #2
4) Date more - don't marry the only guy you ever dated. (See #2 & #3)
5) You always wanted to learn how to play the Banjo and Guitar - do it! (must have been all those Saturday nights watching Hee-Haw - I still love country music)
6) You should move out on your own before marrying. (See #2, #3 & #4)
7) You should pay attention to Friday night conversations (See #2, #3, #4 & #6)
I am sure there are more things I could tell her, but these are the more important ones.

Two remarkable women....
In the past two days, I have met two remarkable women.
The first lost her husband about a year and a half ago - and she misses him deeply. However, she is staying busy, doing new things, and gaining a new perspective on life. She is funny, smart, open and friendly. Stronger than she gives herself credit for, but I have a feeling she will find out what she is made of a little each day, especially now as she sorts through memories.
The second I met today while at lunch, we were both ordering the chicken salad at Lenny's. She has been married to her husband for 54 years, loves him so much. He is a retired minister, and just had surgery. She was a school teacher. They were sweet to watch as she helped him be seated. She is of the old school southern grace, the accent soft as she talks. We were strangers - but started talking, she teared up when she started talking about her husband. He waved to her from the table. When she went back to their seats, he tried to stand up, but she gently told him to sit. Again, I will say it, it was really sweet to watch.
I have been trying to figure out why these ladies made such an impact on me, and have yet to decide. Is it their strength? Grace? Dignity? Humor? The loved they shared/share with their husband? I am sure it is a combination of all the above.

Dear U.S. Army,
My son is 8 years old. If I were to guess, I would say he wants to join your ranks as soon as he is old enough. I also know given the right training, he will work his way up through the ranks.
He loves everything Army. He dreams of serving just like those who have before him.
I am his mother, I don't know if I should encourage this dream. No, let me rephrase that - I don't want to, but I see him so clearly serving. Always have. So encourage I will.
So, I am thinking if you want to go ahead and come over every night and breathe down his neck to get his homework done, please do so. He needs tons of dental work-feel free to take care of that - then you can use his photo and smile on recruiting posters. He is not a master swimmer - we need help on that - his mother does not swim.
Dear U.S. Army, take care of our soldiers, present, past and future. Dear soldiers, thank you for your service and for being role models for my son.

Walgreens
I know I have written about Walgreens before. But I have to tell you - I love this store.
Smaller than Walmart, you don't have to wait in terribly long lines. And you can buy some really cool stuff in there.
Last night I was in one with a friend - and made the following observations:
Walgreens still has the "as seen on TV aisle. I picture dads who really don't know their daughter, going in and buying the Be-dazzler. Grandsons buying "The clapper" for their grandmother. And so, so on. (and don't forget the Chia Pet)
You walk in the door you can turn two ways - toward the Photo lab ( and I think their people are the best at this!), or toward the make-up and perfume. And I've yet to meet a lady in the cosmetics I didn't like. Somehow she understands why you need Almay foundation, Maybelline eye shadow, and Dove Deodorant - it makes sense to her.
You can buy Ben & Jerry's at most locations. (Thank goodness)
The local newspaper is at the front.
They always have a "season" aisle. Right now it is Easter, but every holiday or season, it is fun to walk down. I always find stuff you can't find in other stores.
I like the pharmacy.
They have Hallmark cards.
They have school supplies and magnet mirrors for lockers. (why I noticed this, I don't know)
At the cash register, you will find and probably buy one of the following: lip gloss, Kleenex, glue, fudge, pens, gum, aspirin, a universal remote, a flashlight, a lighter, pregnancy test (see next item), condoms (see prior item), gift cards to restaurants, phone cards, stamps, People magazine, an electronic dancing bird, bottled water, a map and it just keeps going.
You can get most of your shopping done without ever stepping away from the cash register. Too cool!

Dear Hollywood...
I really don't watch your movies for your views on politics, religion, global warming, the world turning in the right direction, and your relationships.
I watch movies to escape..to have a couple of hours of pleasure. To pretend.
Please stop talking.
The Oscars, the Al Gore love fest, and all the coverage afterwards made me physically ill. Now I have more people I will not watch at the movies. Thanks a lot.

A quote from Robin Williams...
Last night I was watching an interview with Robin Williams...his grandmother was from Memphis.
He had this to say about Southern Women.
When a southern woman says "Bless your heart" she is actually saying "Back off B****"
I say this all the time, and a lot of the time you are genuinely sincere, and you wish everything nice on the person you are talking too.
However (don't you love that word?)
He has a point. (A southern woman can chew you out and it still sound good to a man's ears...it's all in the delivery and style. Also a southern woman can make a criticizing remark sound like a backdoor compliment-trust me...it's a gift)
(I am going to work on not saying it-no, I am going to work on my overall attitude) But still it is funny to think about.

Flag Football and Soccer..
It has begun. My daughter will be playing spring soccer and my son flag football. So my Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays are now booked until June. Wednesdays and Sundays - church and other activities.
My son actually does better in school when he is involved in a sport.

The age old question...
Where do socks go after they are placed in the dryer?
You hold onto one from a pair waiting desperately for its mate to show up - you give up - throw it away, turn into a dust cloth ( good for ceiling fans by the way) and boom it shows up out of no where. How? Why? Is it just my house?

Just because...
Just because I made my son do his homework last night, he is going to run away. Nevermind the fact that he had almost 3 hours to finish before I even walked in the door.
Just because I made my daughter fold and put the laundry that she was supposed to do, say about 3 hours earlier, she is "ticked off!"
I wonder if they realize how much I love them and how proud I am of them?

Nails. I have nails.
I had a manicure on Saturday. I have nails now. Not quite used to them. Don't know if I will keep them.
I am pretty much a low maintenance gal. I've always kept my nails cut short. Polished (I love nail polish), but short.
Now I am learning how to type, open mail, cans, and no telling what else with these nails. They are average length - but it still feels weird.
But it was cool to have it done - 15-20 minutes of pampering. Hmm...May be worth it after all.

What I learned from a beauty pageant.....
(My daughter entered her first beauty pageant this past week...it has been fun...busy...nerve racking....but definitely fun. For whatever reason this drew us closer together - I guess it was all the time we spent in the weeks up to the pageant)
Okay...now, back to "What I learned from a beauty pageant."
1) They don't make 14-15 year old girls like they used to! These girls could have been on the cover of Sports Illustrated Bathing Suit Issue. Good grief. Enough said.
2) Pedicures are necessary- I mean everyone looks at the toes.
3) Always have an extra pair of shoes with you.
4) Maybe even have a "back-up" dress - just in case. One contestant had to buy another dress hours before the pageant because her dress was ruined at the dry cleaners. Or take care of that detail about a week ahead of time.
5) Have your nails done the day before if at all possible!
6) Keep your hair as close to your natural style - you will feel more comfortable and most importantly more confident.
7) Make sure younger siblings know it is not good sportsmanship to yell out at the other contestants when his sister does not place. Said sister was fine - ready to enter next year.
8) Remember to have fun, fun!

Just smack on the blue eye shadow, the lipstick and give them a hug.
(just make sure your roots aren't showing!)
Yep that is how most women in the South handle the women they don't like or how they handle people who have hurt them. And I am guilty of it.
The theory behind this is all of us face people who have hurt us, embarrassed us, or just plain ticked us off. What better way than being nice to them, even if it is fake?
(Missouri Becky-your hat to your EX is a good example)
But Southern women do it best. Weddings, for example. Your son or daughter is getting married, you have an ex, he is with HER, the woman who is now stuck with him, because your glue was tired of holding on. You put on a killer dress, do your hair and makeup, and when you see her, you hug her and tell her she is looking good. (You must hold the bile back in your throat) Now she has to wonder, if you really meant to be nice or were you trying to "show-up" her in front of everyone. But needless to say, you have made the impression. (I don't speak from experience, but I am going on what friends have gone through)
The HEEYYYYY,(said in the best Southern Drawl-all my friends know I have one. And Missouri Becky has heard it) how are you? Followed by conversation, then a quick hug. This happens when you run into someone you are not expecting to see (say at TCBY when you are purchasing your weekly escape Chocolate Shake). The water is under the bridge, but still you just don't want to chit chat. And to be honest, though the water is under the bridge, down the river, and out into the sea, you just don't want to be friends, forgiveness and moving on is one thing, but you (okay me) just can't do the friendship thing. But hey, kids are involved, so please be cordial and respectful.
Oh, and where does the blue eyeshadow and lipstick fit in? Please, true southern women have at least one on all the time. Just like most of us are blonds (natural or loreal-we're blond!)

Race for the Double A's
Batteries are not safe in this house.
My kids fight over Double A batteries, so much so, that I think the Triple A's, The C's & D's feel neglected and rejected.
They will get into some knock down - drag out fights for Duracell and Energizer.
No camera, game boy and CD player is safe. You leave them in plain sight, the batteries disappear so fast it is enough to make a car thief jealous.
Side note: The only batteries that seem to be safe at the moment are those powering remote controls. Of course! Who wants to reach out with you arm and change the channel?

Pencil? Who Needs a Pencil?
I can send to school with my son 5 new pencils, he will lose every one of them, end up borrowing one, and I have to replace it.
He said to me last night -"Mom, really, who needs pencils anyway?" Need I say more?
And my daughter has to be the only 8th grader in her school who never has homework.
And it makes perfect sense to me why one page of his spelling homework is in the dining room, the other in the bedroom, and his math sheet on the floor in the kitchen. Well to be honest, it doesn't make sense to me, but it does to him. The kitchen is where he puts the homework he needs help with, the dining room is where he puts completed homework, and the homework in the bedroom just did not make it to the dining room. Of course, now I understand!
And yep, you guessed it, in all three rooms, there was a pencil.

Help....my mom is dating!
(Before I begin this writing, a note to my dear friend at church - I am not making light of your feelings-but it gave me an idea-along with some things my kids have been talking about)
As I have mentioned before, I am a single mom. Dating is not something I have dived into.
My kids are funny about it. My daughter has a very short list of two guys she wouldn't mind me dating. My son said I don't need to date, don't need to remarry, he says when he becomes a police officer after he finishes in the army, he is going to buy me a house next to his, pay me $20 a week to baby-sit his kids and buy me a Nissan Altima (my dream car...one day!). So there, my kids have me taken care of...sort of.
My father passed away almost 5 years ago - my mother never even thought about dating again. (But trust me when I say, my sisters and I wish she would!) I have no doubt that if it had been the opposite - my dad would have dated. Probably remarried. (and I am sure I would not have liked it one bit)
I have a friend who lost her father almost a year & 1/2 ago - her mother is dating again. She is not ready for this. Doesn't want to talk about it with her mom. I understand. I really do.
In our parent's mind we will always be that 10-year old needing a band aid. In our mind our parents never have sex (except for....count the number of children), and they never date anyone but the other parent. Well things happen, life happens.
If we as adults have a hard time accepting the fact that our parents date, how do we expect our children to accept it without having issues? How are we supposed to handle this without hurting our children and possibly losing out on relationships?
Just food for thought.
But the way I see it...one day I may be making $20 dollars a week, driving a Nissan Altima, and babysitting my grandchildren.

TONIGHT
Tonight I am lonely. I don't want to be single tonight.
I wonder why God has me in this place. I know He loves me and has not forgotten me-but tonight I hurt.
I just want a strong pair of arms and strong shoulders to hold me tonight and let me know it will be okay.
Am I meant to be single for the rest of my life? Does God have a man for me? Am I to wait until my kids are grown? Is this man a new person I've yet to meet? Or an old friend? Do I see him at the store? Church? Work? Library? The doctor's office? The park? Soccer field? Movie?
Will I be too cynical to ever marry? Too set in my ways marry?
Is God preparing me right now? Am I any closer than I was last week? Yesterday?
But tonight I am lonely, and I hurt.
HOW TO HANDLE THE UPS AND DOWNS OF BEING AN EX-WIFE AND HAVING AN EX-HUSBAND
1.) YOU CANNOT CONTROL WHAT GOES ON THEIR HOUSE - ALL YOU CAN DO IS BE THE BEST MOM YOU CAN BE.
2.) OKAY, THIS A FUNNY ONE, BUT REMEMBER THE COMMERCIAL FOR DEODORANT, "NEVER LET THEM SEE YOU SWEAT?" WELL, NEVER LET THEM KNOW YOU LITERALLY THROW UP AFTER THEY DELIVER NEWS THAT WILL CAUSE SET BACKS ON ALL SORTS OF LEVELS.
3.) ANOTHER FUNNY ONE, NEVER LET THEM KNOW HOW MANY TIMES YOU WILL CHECK THE MAIL WHEN YOU ARE WAITING ON CHILD SUPPORT-BECAUSE YOU HAVE LIKE $2.00 IN THE BANK.
4.) UNLESS THE WOMAN HE IS WITH IS THE ONE HE LEFT YOU FOR (CHANCES ARE SHE'S NOT) - YOUR BEEF IS NOT WITH HER - IT IS WITH HIM. DON'T TAKE THE ANGER OUT ON HER. WHY FEED THE FIRE?
5.) REGARDLESS OF HOW YOU AND YOUR EX FEEL ABOUT EACH OTHER - YOUR KIDS NEED TO SPEND TIME WITH THE OTHER. IT IS IMPORTANT. AND UNLESS HE IS A CRIMINAL OR PREDATOR AND THERE IS A SAFETY ISSUE-MAKE SURE YOUR KIDS SEE THE OTHER PARENT. EVEN IF CHILD SUPPORT PAYMENTS ARE BEHIND - DON'T KEEP THE KIDS AND THE OTHER PARENT APART. YOU DON'T WANT THEM TO FEEL ABANDONED OR FORGOTTEN.
6.) ENCOURAGE YOUR KIDS TO WRITE,SEND CARDS, EMAIL AND CALL. KEEP THE OTHER INFORMED.
I say all this, because maybe I am talking to myself, and I am struggling with some major issues right now and they hurt like heck. I am worried and trying so hard not to stress.
and for the last tip..
7.) PRAY FOR YOUR EX- PRAY FOR ALL INVOLVED. IT WILL HELP YOU. PRAY FOR GOD TO GUIDE YOU.
and again I think I am talking to myself - I don't think I have any more tears.
PART OF A CIRCLE
I just can't win in this house. My mother and I, along with my two kids live together. Trust me there are times when I am about to go insane.
This may be one of those nights...but I have discovered.....
Earphones....more specifically my daughter's ear phones. I am sure I am using the same ear phones to tune out the complaining and nagging (my mother)that my daughter uses to tune out complaining and nagging.(me)
Hmm...
Am I part of a huge circle or what?

I often joke about needing a real vacation. One where you go and just don't' worry about anything. Where you know when you come home, you will still have money left over to pay bills and buy groceries. One where the phone doesn't ring every 5 minutes, a vacation where you are not pulled into 100 different directions.
This single mom does not see a vacation in her near future. But let me share my fantasy vacation(s).
My first vacation would be to take my kids somewhere...Universal Studios or even Disney (off season of course) for a few days. I would just like to be able to do this for my kids. I don't wont to worry about $ on this vacation either. (So obviously this is a dream)
And now my dream vacation.
No phones, computers, televisions, etc. And no kids for a few days. A radio would be fine. A stack of books. A claw foot tub, tons of candles, and rest. Oh, during the day I am sure I would do the tourist thing....maybe. I am thinking all of this would be in some mountain cabin, where there is a wrap around porch, surrounded by flowers-the scents blending together-sweet enough to be a perfume, and no one in sight. Of course this dream vacation of mine could change slightly if I were married. Maybe that is part of my dream vacation, being with someone who loves me.
Or maybe I could stay in a Bed and Breakfast. I have never stayed in one that would be cool.
I am not too sure about a cruise - I've heard too many things about them. However, if one came my way, I wouldn't turn it down.
I would like to visit New York-see a couple of Broadway shows and soak up the atmosphere. Do you think the folks in New York would know I was from Tennessee? (I am saying that because I have been told I have a real southern accent! Ha!)
I am just so tired lately. Mentally, emotionally, spiritually and physically tired. Drained past the point of exhaustion. I don't even sleep that great.
Vacation - it sounds so good right now.

This beauty pageant stuff...
Okay, I am new to this pageant stuff. But it is exhausting. For those of you who don't know, my daughter is competing in a local pageant. Needless to say it has been a learning experience from the minute we started.
She is tanning, thanks to a cousin who owns a tanning salon, at no cost - since she is only tanning for a few weeks. She had her eyebrows waxed. Next week, the day of the pageant, she will have her hair, nails and makeup done. The dresses are altered and ready to go.
But let me tell you something about teenage girls. They are so mean to each other. It is funny how they check each other out and give every girl the once over - some of them are down right snotty. Most of them catty toward each other. (Do women learn this at birth?)
Since I am new to this, I don't know the rules. Am I supposed to be nice to the other mothers, are we supposed to chat? Do I tell the other girls they are pretty? What am I supposed to wear the night of the pageant? Don't even let me tell you how I am obsessing that I am going "dateless/single." That is a whole other issue.
My daughter is practicing her walk, and we are going over different possible interview questions. Today was rehearsal - so they practiced, went over how to stand, walk, talk, etc.
I don't know about all this. But my daughter is having fun and that is what counts.

Single momhood.
Today it hurts being single. I seem to have so much on my plate and no time.
I am probably going to have to take a part-time job. Doing what I don't know. In the past when it has come up that I may have to take a 2nd or 3rd job - I usually try to take those jobs that involve no emotional attachment. Makes it easier to leave. I try to clean houses - that is always a good way to make extra money - but it takes time to find a house and with my work schedule -hard. We shall see.
I feel so overwhelmed and exhausted right now - I have been on the verge of tears all day - lost it once in my car right at lunch (now I look so pretty-red nose and eyes). I really do need a break - just a small respite. For me to catch my breath.

My love affair with hot baths.
This morning a memory from my teen years came to me so vividly. And this is where I believe my love affair with long hot baths began. Not to mention my fascination with boxes, bottles and baskets.
I used to spend the night a lot at my best friend's house (we were friends from 5th grade on up through our adult years). She lived in this old two story house - her room was upstairs-but as big as this house was - they only had one bath. Her mother had a unique and quirky style of decorating/organizing. (To this day I think I "copy" her in the way I do some things). She used baskets for everything. But in their bathroom was this three tier hanging basket that was always full of bath stuff. I loved that basket. Loved sifting through trying to find just the right scent. She had bath sponges and brushes - it was always a treat to take a bath there. And I always felt so pretty after taking a bath - so girlie.
I have mentioned her before, but my Aunt E, also planted seeds of long hot baths, lotions and creams. I was always fascinated by her dresser. She had all these jars - real pretty jars and bottles of different colors, sizes, shapes and scents. I used to love opening each one and just sniffing the sweet scents found in each of them. And she would always let me put a dab behind my ears and on my wrists. And like at my friends house - I felt pretty and girlie.
I love long hot soaks - though as a mom - they are a true gift. I took one today before anyone got up - it was nice. Chose just the right scent. And I feel girlie and somewhat pretty.
So my friends take a hot bath today - enjoy being a girl.

I am sure I said this last month or something similar...
I really don't need my uterus anymore...I have no intention of having any more children. Why suffer every month?
It should be allowed, say once you are 35 years old, and you know you are not going to have any more children, for you to go to your doctor, and tell him. "Excuse me, I know you are really busy helping women have children, giving exams, counseling, returning phone calls, and other emergencies...but we if we could just end my own misery that would be really cool, I am free tomorrow."
Well, it could work. For me anyway.

Today.
Today I was determined not to throw myself into some type of pity party. Well, I have failed.
And I am sure it is the holiday making me feel this way. I have stayed out of stores and restaurants today-but I am lonely today. This feeling of loneliness started this morning - I so desperately wanted 30 minutes to myself - but once my kids were gone- I wanted them back. At least when I am busy - I don't have time to think.
Appreciate the one who loves you. The one you are with.

Hardened by life, softened by love. I just finished watching the last hour of OPEN RANGE. (a terrific movie by the way!) Kevin Costner's character, Charlie, was hardened by the life he led. His choices were not always the best, and toward the end he came to realize his life was empty. But he also realized he had something good in Sue (Annette Benning). He was softened by love. I decided I am somewhat hardened by life, slightly cynical (okay I am majorly cynical), but I am anxiously awaiting to be softened by love. I admit I have been in love - but burned badly. My heart broke to the point I didn't think I would make it through. In love in the recent past - to know that it was not meant to be. I would like to say I am ready for God to bring that person into my life. But am I? Will I be too hardened? Too cynical? Too mistrusting? Too bitter?
Weekend Review. It has been one of those weekends, where you have no free time, but it turns out to be one of the best ever. I worked Friday night at a concessions stand at church. It was fun hanging out with those I love at church. Saturday was a singles get together and I was able to get to know the women in our group even better than I did before. God has really blessed me with this group of friends. I wonder if they know how amazing they are. They are made of some strong stuff, and God has carried them so far. They inspire me.

If you are having a problem with your Internet service....press 6. These were the instructions I received at work today. Our whole system was down. I called customer service...pressed 6..and then was told to go to their web-site for further information. Need I say more? Good grief. (side note: it ended up being the whole service area and finally we were back up and running!)

Homework....gotta love it!
I know some of you are teachers. But do you realize how you are torturing some parents with homework?
Last night, my son had 10-12 minutes of homework. He started at 5:30 - finished at 9:00! And of course it is my fault. And it is my fault he cannot spell chocolate. My fault that he can't find his Valentine List for his class.
I know all this will pass - it did with my daughter - but I am ever so tired. We cannot enjoy our evening hours. And of course it is my fault he cannot play video games, army men, and Battleship.

And they wonder why so many people hesitate about Women in leadership, Combat and other roles. So many lives are changed and careers on the line.

NASA Astronaut Lisa Nowak Charged With Attempted Murder
Tuesday , February 06, 2007
CAPE CANAVERAL, Florida — A NASA astronaut earlier ordered released on bail Tuesday after being slapped with attempted kidnapping charges later was charged with attempted first-degree murder.
A reporter with FOX affiliate WFOL in Orlando, Fla., said a jail spokesman said that Lisa Marie Nowak will now not be released from prison.
Orange County jail spokesman Allen Moore said Orlando police were in the process of adding the more serious charge that Nowak tried to kill Colleen Shipman.
"Even though she satisfied the bail for the other charges, she won't be released from jail," Moore said.
Orange County Judge Mike Murphy had earlier said Nowak could be released on $15,500 bond provided she stay away from the other woman and wear a monitoring device.
Before the attempted murder charges were added, Nowak was charged with attempting to kidnap a romantic rival for a space shuttle pilot's affections, and was told to wear a tracking device and not to contact her alleged victim.
Murphy said Nowak, 43, would be released on $15,500 bond. She said "yes" when Murphy asked her if she understood not to contact the other woman.Nowak stood in a jail uniform, usually with her head facing down during the hearing. She planned to return home to Houston once released.
Nowak is a married mother of three and police believe she was in a love triangle with a fellow astronaut. She faces charges including attempted kidnapping, attempted vehicle burglary with battery, destruction of evidence and battery.
Police said she drove 900 miles, donned a disguise and was armed with a BB gun and pepper spray Monday when she confronted a woman she believed was a competitor for the affections of Navy Cmdr. William Oefelein.
Nowak and Oefelein, 41, were both first-time fliers during separate shuttle missions last year. They trained together but never flew together.
Two other astronauts attended the court hearing. Steve Lindsey, the commander of Nowak's Discovery flight last July, testified that Nowak would obey the conditions of her release.
Chris Ferguson, a pilot on the mission, also attended the hearing. When asked about Nowak's behavior after the hearing, Ferguson responded "perplexed is the word I'm sticking with."
Nowak told police that her relationship with Oefelein was "more than a working relationship but less than a romantic relationship," according to an arrest affidavit. Police found a love letter to Oefelein in her car.
According to authorities, Nowak believed Shipman was romantically involved with Oefelein. When Nowak found out Shipman was flying to Orlando from Houston, Nowak decided to confront her early Monday, according to the arrest affidavit. Nowak raced from Houston to Orlando wearing diapers in the car so she wouldn't have to stop to go to the bathroom, authorities said. Astronauts wear diapers during launch and re-entry.
Dressed in a wig and a trench coat, she waited for Shipman's plane to land and then boarded the same airport shuttle bus Shipman took to get to her car, police said. Shipman told police she noticed someone following her, hurried inside the car and locked the doors, according to the arrest affidavit.
Nowak rapped on the window, tried to open the car door and asked for a ride. Shipman refused but rolled down the car window a few inches when Nowak started crying. Nowak then sprayed a chemical into Shipman's car, the affidavit said. Shipman drove to the parking lot booth and police were called.
An officer reported following Nowak and watching her throw away a bag containing the wig and BB gun. Police also found a steel mallet, a 4-inch folding knife, rubber tubing, $600 and garbage bags inside a bag Nowak was carrying when she was arrested, authorities said.
Oefelein and Shipman, who the Houston Chronicle said worked at Patrick Air Force Base near the Kennedy Space Center, did not immediately return calls seeking comment.
NASA spokesman James Hartsfield in Houston said that, as of Monday, Nowak's status with the astronaut corps remained unchanged. "What will happen beyond that, I will not speculate," he said.Hartsfield said he couldn't recall the last time an astronaut was arrested and said there were no rules against fraternizing among astronauts.
Police said Nowak told them that she only wanted to scare Shipman into talking to her about her relationship with Oefelein and didn't want to harm her physically."If you were just going to talk to someone, I don't know that you would need a wig, a trench coat, an air cartridge BB gun and pepper spray," said Orlando police Sgt. Barbara Jones. "It's just really a very sad case."
According to NASA's official biography, Nowak is a Naval Academy graduate who has a master's degree in aeronautical engineering. She has a teenage son and younger twin girls.
Oefelein has two children and began his aviation career as a teenager flying floatplanes in Alaska, according to a NASA biography. He studied electrical engineering at Oregon State University and later earned a master's degree in aviation systems at the University of Tennessee Space Institute. He has been an astronaut since 1998.

Observations...
My make-up box. Why is it I had the following in my make-up box this morning? A G.I. Joe,
2 ink pens, a pencil, a CD belonging to my daughter, a crayon, wheels from a Hot Wheel car and
a rock. They weren't in there yesterday. Did I miss something?
The post office. In the post office I frequent, here are my choices for dropping off mail: Out of town, Local, Stamped and Metered. Now what if your mail is metered and out of town? Local and stamped? Stamped and out of town? Local and metered? I don't get it.
10 for $10. I like this kind of sale, but the other day at the store, I guess my cashier was new. The store had several items like this on sale. But being broke, I picked up 10 different items totalling $10. Hey, I had two bags of vegetables, eggs, bread, juice, lunch meat, cheese, and
so on. Threw her for a loop. Or maybe I was wrong. She didn't think I could do that. That I had to buy 10 of each item to receive the sale price. Even her manager could not make her understand. It went right over her head. She didn't even try scanning. Maybe she understands now.
Ketchup. Why is it Ketchup is a food group in my house. But my kids won't eat anything that has tomato sauce on top? (Meatloaf-casseroles, etc) (They'll eat spaghetti - I just can't make them understand)
Yogurt vs Milk. My daughter will eat yogurt but not drink milk. Says she is "allergic" - news to me. Go figure.
Child Support. Why is it in some families it cost $600 a month to raise a child, but $400 to raise two children-and lucky to receive that? Who decides the cost?
Movies. My sister lost a movie she rented. Why did the movie cost the rental store $50 but we can buy at Walmart for $19 or less. I told her just go buy them the movie. Same thing for some library books - I don't understand. (But how do you lose a movie?)
Christians. Why doesn't the press really stress that we had two Christian coaches in the Super Bowl? Two men in leadership positions not ashamed of their faith?

What to do with all the VHS movies?
What am I supposed to do with all of our VHS tapes? We still have a VCR. I have a lot of memories tied up in these rectangular shaped boxes. I mean, I watched Beauty and the Beast with my daughter about 500 times. And now I am supposed to push it aside? What about Bob the Builder? Blues Clues (my son even had a thinking chair) The Breakfast Club? Dirty Dancing? Steel Magnolias? 101 Dalmatians? Barney? (though both my kids deny ever dancing to Hey Mr. Knickerbocker, boppity bop - but I have the video to prove it!)
Something about DVDs - they are nice - and the picture/sound quality is great. But they can be so fragile-so easy to scratch, etc. Remember when you could just toss a VHS tape around and it still play?
I have one of those combination VCR/DVD players and a VCR under my bed. I think I will hold on to everything.

Shoe shopping. And don't forget the earrings.
Today we went shopping for shoes for my daughter. These shoes are to be worn with the dress she will be wearing in a local pageant. My goal was not to spend more on the shoes than I did the dress. Success! They are real pretty with two-inch heels. She has to practice walking in them, and remember they are not clogs, slides, or tennis shoes. It is taking some getting used to.
So, let's recap....we have the evening gown, the shoes and the earrings...the long, dangly kind. (We picked them up today) Now we need our intro/casual outfit. She tried on several today - and we will pick one up next pay day. We are also going to get an outfit for dress rehearsal...because I told her...you go in looking ready to win. Presentation and First Impressions are key. This is nerve racking for her. She has never competed before, so she has been practicing walking, answering questions, etc. I know I agreed to this whole pageant thing, but I am still unsure. I just don't know.
We have to sign up for tanning, get nails done, etc. Pageant is the last Saturday of this month. Whew. How do people do this all the time? Geesh!
Side note: My son was with us...let me tell you he was not into it...didn't even want to go into the stores with us. How funny.

MEAN MOM...PART 5,000. Yep, I continue to be a mean mom. Thank you very much. It is a title I cherish. Why am I mean? I made my kids study today. Told them not to take for granted we will be home tomorrow (I think they are hoping-it is snowing). Why am I mean? I had my daughter match up of what seemed 200 pairs of socks today, to match movies to boxes, sort clothes, etc. In the process we found about 20 pony tail bands, (I swear they are like rabbits - they multiply at a rapid rate-then they hide themselves in fear of being worn by women and girls everywhere!), $1.50 in change and about 10 batteries - everyone needs batteries behind their television and in their shoebox, where else would you put them? I am mean and ruined my son's life around 10:00 am today, because I made him take a bath, and egads made him brush his teeth. Trust me guilt I do not feel, though I did laugh at his award winning performance.
Snow day, ice day...well kind of... Living where we live, we just don't see that much snow/winter weather. So we are always kind of excited when we see the chance of the smallest amount. Also living where we live, it is just about guaranteed schools will be closed for the smallest amount of snow/ice. (I am sure my northern friends and Missouri Becky would laugh at us-but hey we take what we can get). So needless to say we were home today - though the roads were clear by 11:30 or so. It was nice. We cleaned. Cleaned dressers and closets out. Underneath beds (all I can say...eeeeeeewwwwwwww), and cleaned carpets. I made some pancakes for breakfast and homemade soup for dinner. It has been a good day. I needed it.

Which came first, Love or Sex?
I asked a friend (one of my guy friends) tonight if he and his wife had waited to be intimate, would they have married? He didn't know the answer. I think in that - the answer lies. I asked another friend - and she said she and her boyfriend (they are in their 40's) are waiting until they are married.
I have several friends who have been intimate with guys they were dating at the time, and not one relationship worked out in a positive way. (Yes, I know several people will email me or write saying the opposite worked for them) From what I can tell, women will be intimate with someone they have strong feelings for - most of the time they believe they are in love with the guy. Since I am not a guy, I cannot speak for them, but I don't think this is the case on their side. (hey, I could be wrong).
Before I go any further, I firmly believe in waiting until you are married before you are intimate with anyone. That is God's plan for us. Sex was made for marriage. And I have a few friends who have remarried and don't regret waiting until marriage to be intimate with their new spouse. They tell me , it is a gift to each other. I know of too many single friends who gave in - and are now hurting terribly-the relationship did not go the way they thought it was headed. Dealing with feelings and emotions they were not prepared to deal with.
I know. I know. Compared to today's standards, I sound terribly old fashioned and "prudish", but I am who I am. Now I have had people tell me I am pretty much eliminating "prospects" from the already slim dating pool, and that essentially I am eliminating myself from the dating pool. Surely, there are others out there who feel the same way as I?
And please if you are in an intimate relationship, ask yourself, does the other person genuinely care for you? Want to spend time with you? Or are you using each other for completely different reasons? One of you for a loving relationship and the other for ...well...sex.
Guard your heart, mind, and body...you are so valuable.

Back to the old argument......
Can men and women be friends?
My 76 year old mother, thinks not. She does not understand the friendships I have with different guys, (they are from work, church, old friends..) She really does think there is no way possible for men and and women to be "just friends." (side note: I think it would be really cool for all my friends to meet, it would be an intersting mix...hmm maybe when I turn 40?)
Maybe she is right, mabye "Harry" from When Harry met Sally is right. Regardless if the woman knows it or not, does sex always enters the picture, even if it is just in the guy's mind? Is he sitting there, wondering "what if" or "man, she looks pretty good tonight."
This really has me thinking - I have several "guy" friends from church - and I don't think of them as a potential date/mate-they are friends - friends to go to a movie or dinner with. Same with a couple of guy friends, I met them through work and such. And I have a guy friend I have known since, well it seems like, since Moby Dick was a tadpole! :) We are just friends.
Do women view the friendship differently? Are we blind? Are there guys out there that never think of being intimate or in a romantic relationship with their female friends?
I must confess I've had two male friends - both of them I was attracted to at one time
(separate times of course!) - had feelings for - but I never acted on them - and we remain friends today. I wonder, did they feel the same way?
You read in previous post - how I wish I could feel something in the romantic sense for one guy friend - but it's just not there. And as a coworker said today - "if it's not there, its not there!" Does this friend of mine feel the same way?
Is it my mother's generation? Is it sign of the times? Or am I fooling myself. Hmmmm.. I wonder.

Feelings...
You ever wish you feel something for someone other than friendship? How you pray that it will happen - but God in His wisdom knows that is not the type of relationship you or the other needs?
You ever wish the feelings you have for someone would go away? Why is the ache ever present? And when they do go away - you miss those feelings-because in your mind as long as the "feeling" was there -there stood half a chance of something more? On the other hand - you are grateful they have diminished and you can go through the day without those powerful, consuming thoughts and feelings.
You ever wish someone would feel something-anything for you, and look at you like you matter? And maybe it would grow into something so sweet?
As I have mentioned, I know God has a plan in all this - I just wish I understood it - because I am ever so lonely today. And desperately want to be held.

Today..
Today is hard. And I have no idea why. Well, I kind of do. Right now I am going through a tough time - and I am ranking it up there as tough as the times right after my divorce.
I am talking tough emotionally, physically, mentally and financially. Hits seem to be coming from everywhere. I know God has a plan in all this and I have to be patient-but I am ever so tired.
I need Precious to call so I can snap of this funk - I need a good kick of our friendship! It is like a dose of vitamins or something. (Don't ask - I can't explain our friendship-but I love my friend).
My friend M.H. is coming for dinner - so I best get to cooking! And I mean I am cooking Southern Style.
Have a good day!

When did we become our mothers?
Now there is a question that will have women everywhere squirming.
I am sure some will say, "I want to be like my mother." And that is so good. But some of us have to be honest, yes we love our mothers, but... and that my dear friends is a huge BUT....
But do we really want to turn into our mothers? All of this came to mind today when I went to lunch with my friend S.D. We were talking about our health! Now when did that happen? When did it evolve from dates, friends, kids, husbands, ex husbands, jobs...to aches, pains, indigestion and blood pressure?
NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO this cannot happen. My mother checks her blood pressure about 3-4 times a day. I know more about her bodily functions than I want to - and trust me it is not because I want to - she just tells me between commercials for American Idol or when I am eating Rice Krispies. And trust me when I say this - it ranks up there with thinking about your parents having sex. EEEEEEEEEEWWWWWWWWWWWWW
Is it inevitable? Does it come with age?
I am not ready for this...I am only 37......eeeeeeeeeeewwwwwwwwwwwwww help!

A call from the principal....
I received a call this morning from one of the principal's at my son's school Uh Oh!
He was in the office with the principal. Uh Oh! It seems my son got in trouble for screaming on the bus.
Why does talking to a principal reduce most of us...or maybe it is just me...to mush? It is like I am in 5th grade or something like that. (side note: for the record - I never went to the principal's office - I was your typical boring good girl all through out life-and I've yet to escape the mold!) Geesh. He did say my son was not the only one - only that I needed to sign the form and talk to him.
I am sure my son was a wreck after leaving the office - his day was ruined - he is like his mother - does not handle controversy well at all. Now what should I do...hmmm?
And why do I have the feeling that this won't be my first call in his educational career?

House sitting...
The kids and I have been house sitting this week for D.C. Tonight is our last night. We have enjoyed our time here. It is nice "pretending" - we each had our space and time. It does give me a serious case of "house envy." Yes, I know it is wrong to be envious. But, oh how I want a place to call my own.
I have enjoyed taking two long baths in her great tub! Whoo - it was heavenly - and no interruptions! Why? Because there is a 2nd bathroom. What a luxury!
Along with the house came three pets, a dog, a cat and a fish. The dog is a "wuss", he is very funny. The cat has to be one of the sweetest cats I've seen - very loving and playful. Well, the fish, well, he's a fish.
So thank you my friend! I've enjoyed our "holiday!"
Love ya!

Explain something to me....
For years women have spoken up and fought for more stalls in the restrooms of public places. Ball fields, concert halls, shopping centers, etc.
Well, finally we are getting more stalls - and there are usually plenty of sinks.
Please explain this to me...why have 12 stalls, 9 sinks, 4 things of soap, and 1 paper towel dispenser? And the dispenser is on the wall, behind those women who may be standing in line! Or if there are two entrances - seems to me there should be two paper towel dispensers....oh no, we will find just one paper towl dispenser-and if we are lucky enough to have two dispensers - one of them will either be empty or jammed.
And now you have those little tv screens in the restroom - showing commercials for make up, hair removal, hair loss, tampons, and weight loss. Please.! Why do this to us? The lighting is horrid in these places - so we already have a complex about how we look-I am obsessing and thinking "I am pretty sure my makeup was even when I left the house-man I need to lose about 500 more pounds, is that a hair on my chin?" Then we leave the restroom needing therapy, on the phone with the weight loss people, we stop at Walgreens for the hair removal stuff...the night out ends up costing us $200. And our hands aren't even dry. The men fuss at us "What took you so long?" And there are no words to explain.
I am waiting for the day where each stall has it's own commercial running screen, and you can't leave the stall until you flush. And you will really sit through all of them-whether you want to or not, because you are afraid you will miss something.

You are as pretty in your pajamas as you are in your work clothes. I heard this today. But first let me set up the story. As I have said before, we live in the country, we do not have garbage pick up - oh we can pay someone to pick it up - but why have another bill? Sorry, I am getting off track, but what we do have is a county controlled landfill. So I take our garbage there once or twice a week. There is this man who works there, he has to be at least 75. He is a flirt-but he is a sweetheart. I went to take our garbage early this morning, in my pajamas, and he was there - he comes to my car and he said..."you know miss you are as pretty in your pajamas as you are in your work clothes." I savored the moment-after all a girl doesn't hear that very often-even if she is standing beside a huge garbage container and considering my pajamas consist of a men's flannel shirt, pull on pants, red socks, topped with a pair of clogs. I did brush teeth and hair. Only if he were slightly...okay a lot younger.
That's okay...I've called my husband.
Tonight when I was driving to drop my daughter off at a friend's house, I saw an SUV with emergency lights flashing. I told my daughter I would stop on the way back. I did.
One lady and two kids. I asked if they were okay and if they needed help. She said, "we're fine, that's okay, I've called my husband."
I wonder if she knows how blessed she is to have someone to call. Yes, I know the feminists out there will be shaking their heads at me. But for this gal, I long to have someone to call.

I am 37 and I appreciate my friends so much. I have such a diverse group of friends - I am very blessed. I think as you get older you appreciate your friends more. My kids' great-grandmother is 93-and believe it or not, she still has close friends, though their numbers are fewer each year - they still support one another. That is awesome. Don't take your friends for granted!
I am sure I am oversharing....
I just want to call up my OB/GYN and say the following,
(sidenote: I probably could call him and he would laugh at me...I have been seeing him for gulp....20 years and trust me he would not be surprised - I provide comic relief in his office!)
"Hey Dr. L, I just wanted to ask you .....since I really don't plan on having any more children...and I am growing weary of monthly pain, headaches, cramps, and the accompanying emotional roller coaster...is there a way we can take care of the uterus and ovaries so I don't have to worry about that anymore?"
I wonder what he would say...hmmmm..
(Yes I know I would have other issues to deal with...but geesh it gets harder with year of age!)

Beauty pageants.....
I have mixed feeling about beauty pageants...excuse me....Scholarship programs.
My daughter is wanting to participate in a local pageant. Dress, shoes, outfits the works.
I told her we would do it. I found two dresses for her the other day - they need some size adjustments, but hopefully a lady at church can look at them and we will see if she can help us.
They are brand new dresses-tags and all still on them-extra sequins, etc - but I got them for $10 each! I was so excited. We need shoes. I need these dresses to work - just for the financial reasons-which I am still trying to figure out.
She is so excited about the prospect of participating - I know she will do well - especially in the interview portion -she does well with public speaking.
Beauty pageants....now it is obvious we live in the south!
(I am pretty sure you won't be hearing about her on the news involved in some controversy-sorry Donald and Rosie!)
Wish us luck.

Single momhood....
It is a lonely time for me. Why this loneliness continually creeps up on me, I have no idea. But it sure is painful.
I am worried about finances...things are getting tighter and tighter. As I have written before, this is the longest period I have gone without working two jobs - and I guess I will be working a 2nd job soon - something is going to have to give. Hopefully I will find a house to clean or something like that. I like jobs that have no emotional attachment.
My daughter needs a scientific calculator, my son a workbook, and a prescription needs to be picked up - it will be put back today.
I know there are worse problems out there - but today I feel so defeated.
And alone.

I said I wasn't going to do it....
But I am watching American Idol this year. I just started watching the show last year, felt Chris should have won (yes I like Taylor-but Chris had the whole package) - but he is doing fine on his own-so there you go America! (I really was mad when he was voted off - at that point I decided most people in America wouldn't know talent if it bit them in the rear end!)
Whether the person can sing or not...you have to admire them for going after their dream...for trying. That takes courage!
It is a very addicting show - I really get attached to these kids on the show.
I will tell you this.....this is one show that brings the whole family together in one room. There we were...my mother....daughter...son and me! Amazing.

WHY THEY CALL HIM "KING GEORGE"
The concert was awesome! I had so much fun. George looked and sounded great. He proves over and over just how talented he is. His "Ace in the Hole" band sounded real good! Ronnie Milsap was awesome - if you ever get the chance to see him-take it. He rocked! Taylor Swift opened - and she was good - a bright future is ahead of her.
"King George" that is what they call him. King of Country Music. He just knows how to pick the songs and make them his own.
This was my 15th George Strait concert - and he sounds as good as he did many years ago, if not better.

Tonight is the night! A few hours from now I will be screaming with 1,000's of others when George Strait comes out on stage. I am so excited. Do you think he will see me? I am sure he will. This will be my 15th time seeing him in concert-surely he knows me by sight. I am so excited. I know it will be impossible for him to sing all my favorites, but I am so excited! Ronnie Milsap will be opening - I've heard his concerts are great! Did I mention I am excited? I am guessing by 9:00 I will be singing along to "Give it Away" or "All my exes live in Texas" I am excited-can't you tell?

Updates!
Hi everyone. I have been out of town on business these past few days-but I am back home. Whew. I am tired.
It was good trip - very productive. It was also nice to get away from my normal routine - kind of like a break of sorts-even though I was working and/or driving the whole time.
It was good to see my kids - though I had to be "mean" mom. My son did not have his homework done when I got home last night. He said I was being too "fussy." Go figure. He stayed with my friend, S.D. Thanks my friend! My daughter stayed with my mother - and all went well. She did a good job on getting up and getting ready. I think she was nervous she would over sleep - so she didn't sleep that soundly. This morning - she was dragging!
So, that is where I have been - I will write more later.
Happy Thursday!

Lazy days and the disappearance of gray hair. This has been a very restful day! I slept to 10:00 - yep you read it right - to 10:00 this morning. And it felt good. Took a quick shower and then my friend N.S. came over to highlight my hair.....excuse me....to cover up the 9 gray hairs. (She said if you could still count them, then it doesn't count as gray hair, plus she didn't see them....well duh...I pulled them out...please...what kind of southern woman do you think I am?) It was nice hanging out and talking to her as we giving the color time to "set." She really is one of the sweetest people I know. I then went to the post office followed by a trip to the store for spaghetti fixin's and have been home all day. It has been so nice. Even my daughter has appreciated the fact that we are not running 'to and fro' all day. She has lounged around in pj's and has been reading. My son is battling the German army right now (he is so into WWII). I am just about ready to iron clothes and such for the upcoming week - I am traveling out of town for work - it will be a break away from the normal routine - the getting ready part is a pain. My son is staying with a friend - so he is excited. This time next week...I will be driving to see George Strait. I am so excited!!!!!! And he won't have to worry about my gray hair.

Dear Mrs. Ford,
Thank you for being such a fine example of Grace. You inspire me. As do your children. I know you must be tired. I hope you find rest these next few days. The services were beautiful.
Thank you for sharing your husband with the whole country - he was a good man.
I continue to pray.
Becky

Presidents, Pat Robertson and Publishers Clearing House.
Yes I know it is a weird way to begin a blog.
I have been watching President Ford's funeral services. It has to be lonely to be President. As I was watching the service held in Washington-I thought of the four living Presidents: Carter, Clinton and the two Bush men. Divided by parties and ideas. But they are 4 of only 43 men who have led our country. I am by my beliefs and thoughts not a Democrat-I am a Republican-but I do not vote straight Republican in every election - you vote for the man and the issues - not the party, yes I have disagreed with decisions our Presidents have made, but you have to respect the office no matter what party you belong. I admire all of them for different reasons, with the elder Bush being one of my favorites, maybe because he was the first man I ever voted for President. His wife I consider one of my hero's. The current President Bush-I feel for because he is taking such a beating - I like him-do I agree with him on everything? No, but I like him. You know where he stands - he doesn't candy coat his thoughts and feelings. Is he perfect? No, but no one is. No matter what you think or feel about any of these men, as I was watching them, I realized they love this great country we live in - you could see it in their eyes. And there is this kinship they share - knowing they all have dealt with the pressure and loneliness. But I also feel like none of them would trade it for anything.
Pat Robertson. Hmm. I am a Christian. Raised in Church, I actively attend and serve. He needs to hush. (I don't mean to be disrespectful) I hope and pray that his "predictions" draw people closer to Jesus. But I fear it will do the opposite - push people away from God and the church.
Publishers Clearing House. Good grief. My mother is at it again. A few years ago she was so into Publisher's Clearing House - buying and ordering stuff. My sisters and I finally got it all stopped, now she is all ready to enter again. And she wants me to enter for her...ONLINE! She is determined she will win.
These are my thoughts.

The verdict is in. Almost $400 after you add everything up. UGH! I am working very hard not to be sick.
It will be okay.
For those of you who want to know...it was the belt, tensioner, motor mount, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc, - then I have short in the lighting system. SOOOOOOOOOOOOO there you go.
yuck yuck yuck.

My New Years Eve. Being the party animal I am, I have decided to share with you my New Years Eve-please hold on to your hats - and please don't be jealous. First I changed...into my new soft bathrobe. I love my robe. Then I played a cutthroat game of Battleship with my son - he won - he is very good. Then we rung in the New Year with New York and went to bed. (My daughter was at a slumber party). Whoo Hoo. Life of single mom - Happy New Year. (But it is safe to say I feel really rested and less stressed than I have all week-I needed the rest)
