I just realized...
I have been writing a lot about my son lately and not my daughter.
My daughter has to be one of the funniest people I know. She is also very sensitive to the emotions of others-she has a strong sense of discernment.
At the same time, she doesn't take a whole lot off of anyone. She is real confident in who she is. And like her mother feels things strongly.
She is going to a birthday/slumber/spa party tonight. Her best friend is turning 13. They have been friends since they were 3 and 4 years old. They compliment each other beautifully.
But as I wrote a few days ago...she is very 13! And there are times when I question if both of us will make it to 14!

"Mom, what do girls like?"
I am supposed to hear that question at 16 not at 8! I guess it is normal. I told him flowers, cards, depending on what it is for.
Well, needless to say he drew someone a picture of flowers. I am sure she is no where good enough for him. :) He placed the picture in large Zip-Loc Bag and plans to leave it on her desk.
He showed me her picture in the yearbook...she is cute.
Hmm...I wonder if this relationship will last.
How funny.

And the award for Best Dramatic acting by an 8 year old doing homework is awarded to.....
My Son!
Yes, I admit it I am one mean mom. How dare I make sure he completes his homework? Should take 15 minutes tops...but he can and does stretch it to over an hour. "It does not make sense. Tell me why.......why do I have to do this? It is not fair." (add a few tears and quivering lips)
Unfortunately for him, his sister trained me in the drama over homework, I am immune.
But really...he should receive an award for such an outstanding performance.

Being single in today's world....
Single at 37 never thought it would be this way. I always pictured myself married to the same person for all my life. I have been separated/divorced for almost 7 years. They have been hard years financially, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. I have learned so much and I am so much stronger that I was 7 years ago. God has always provided and continues to show His mercy and grace.
Single.....I am lonely today. And ever so tired. I wonder if I will ever have someone for me - is that selfish or what? To have someone care about my day? To have someone just to hold me for a few minutes at night?
A date. What is a date, besides a box on a calendar? Do people my age date anymore? What do you actually do on a date? My last official date was when I was 19-good grief. And I am not sorry to say, but I believe, no intimacy until marriage. God intended it for marriage. I know what some say, that this "ideal" will hurt me more than help me if I ever meet someone. Some will say that I am "old-fashioned." Well, that is okay. I believe what I believe - and if I ever meet that special someone - he will have to believe the same way. And respect the boundaries and don't push.
Then you add my kids into the mix - and I am fiercely protective of them. I tell my daughter she will probably not even know if and when I date-because I don't believe in having people come in and out of their lives. I have seen too many examples of this in friends and with their dad. (who thankfully has settled down and married someone who seems to be ok)
Now, my question? Am I being too picky? Too strict? Too unbending? Hmm...I don't know.
But, I still struggle with the loneliness that comes with being single. And goodness knows I am feeling it today.
I know God has a plan and I have to be patient. That is hard...being patient.
What do you think?

I am the mother of a teenager....
Oh, how I love her and I am so proud of her. She has such a bright future.
But I am the mother of a teenager.....
I can see it now...years from now...talk show....my daughter will be asked...."so tell us about your relationship with your mother...." And they will run out of time and will need a part 2.
I am the mother of a teenager, I will survive.

HOMEWORK
Homework.....at the very mention of it...I shudder.
My daughter is finally handling her own homework with very little input from. No more fighting her to get it done, no more long nights with her. YEAH! I AM SO EXCITED.
But oh how my son has taken her place at the homework table. He is so dramatic. "I'm tired, this is boring, you're mean, the other kids do their work on the bus and school. Their mom does not make them study." The other day and I kid you not...he was going for the Oscar...."you've changed mom, you've really changed!" I asked how I had changed, he said "you used to be so nice, now you make me do homework!" This was after I had made him sit and complete his work -something that should have taken 15 minutes max - but turned in to two hours. I was exhausted when he finally finished. I just want to write a note to his teacher..to let her know I can spell and do subtraction. And I want a sticker for my efforts!
And by the way...I relish being a mean mom...I tell my kids all the time...they think I am at work...but actually I am taking classes on making their lives miserable. And they are my homework. :)

THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN BOYS AND GIRLS (Well one of them anyway)
Being the mother of two kids - one girl (13) and one boy (8) I have noticed since my son was a baby the differences between boys and girls.
But one that continues to stand out....Laundry...
If a boy finds any piece of clothing in the back of a closet, under the bed, etc.....he will smell it first to see if it is okay to wear. And sometimes if it is questionable, he will still wear it.
If a girl finds a piece of clothing....regardless of where she finds it....she will make sure it matches everything else....THEN SHE WILL SMELL IT.....to see if she needs to spray with perfume or toss in the dryer with a fabric softner sheet. Regardless if it is clean or not....it has to match.
How funny.

(I wrote this in October 2005)
THE BATTLE
The faces of the soldiers were solemn, they knew the task ahead. Their weapons were aimed and ready. Medics waited in the background. Their leader barking out last minute orders.
THE BATTLE
The faces of the soldiers were solemn, they knew the task ahead. Their weapons were aimed and ready. Medics waited in the background. Their leader barking out last minute orders.
The faces of those they were fighting were just as solemn and stoic.
Their leader was barking out last minute orders.
Soldiers could hear the sound of the water around them. Was this water worth it? Would this battle be their last? Too soon they hear the sounds of distant and all too close explosions.
“Look out!” one group hears. “Mom is coming!”
Yes, mom came. I have just interrupted the fiercest battle between the green and brown army men. (You know those that come in a bucket or big bag at your local store?) The green soldiers have protected their side of the bathtub with little casualty. But the brown army seems to have taken a big hit. Their casualties lie in the middle of water puddles all over the bathroom floor. One is lying on top of the Kleenex box.
Don’t you just love little boys? Don’t you wish they could stay this way?

Full of life, imagination and energy?
(Don’t even ask me if he even used a little thing called soap-I was too busy smiling!)

Well, this is very new to me. I have enjoyed reading the blogs of friends...and thought I would give it a shot.
I enjoy writing - and have been keeping a journal of sorts now for the past year. I don't write every day..just when the mood strikes me. So I am sure those will be my first things I post.
I look forward to hearing from you.
