IN THE NEWS
I wish I was smarter. I wish I was a doctor. A scientist. Something or someone who could help find a cure. A treatment. A preventative. Something. But I am me. Facing this with my mother after going through it with my father. And seeing three aunts lose the battle also.
As I wrote before I try to find laughter in the day - to enjoy the lighter side of things. I laugh to keep from crying on most days. And sometimes the tears win.
I wonder if I could adequately explain to our President what Alzheimer's does to the person and the family. How tired one can get? How discouraged? How it must be a living hell to be trapped in your mind like so many are? How it is hard to work and take care of family when you are a caregiver? I never seem focused on the tasks at hand - worrying about mom. Though it is easier since wonderful Melecia came into our lives.
WHEW! NO SKUNK!
I am leaning toward what the pest control guy said - Mr. Skunk probably sprayed outside our house. Ugh.
But thankful for no critters!

NO OFFENSE......
Sam has had six projects due in two weeks - major projects at that.
A coworker - her granddaughter received notice on two projects Due today on Friday. They first thought her granddaughter wasn't telling the truth when she knew - the project note was dated Friday. And one is a major project - 50% of her exam.
I am guessing testing is complete, there is not much more they can cram into the kids. Why not just shorten the school year by giving up a break or two. We have Fall Break, Thanksgiving Break (each 1 week), then Christmas Break, Spring Break, Easter......
Maybe my attitude is wrong on this one. Why not go ahead and do exams this week and get them over with and do fun stuff next week. Field day and such?
EXPLAIN THE BRAIN TO ME AGAIN?
But now to the funny part of last night.....I am visiting mom - sit down and we talk, watch TV and eat a snack. Melecia is there with us. I get up to leave - ask mom if she wants to come with me - she says no, she will stay there - (she did fine by the way) - then she says..."So if you are here tonight - you won't be here tomorrow night - like last week right? She has figured our my every other night pattern. Explain that to me?
Ha ha.
SKUNK
I am going nuts just thinking about it. I first thought it was in the attic - but a pest control guy said it is unlikely we have one in the attic. He said it could be Mr. Skunk was near a window or the a/c unit and he sprayed and smell came through the house. Or he sprayed Mr. Owl who was trying to kill Mr. Skunk and now Mr. Owl is in our house.
Oh boy.

MEDICINE CHANGE
PROM NIGHT PICTURES
Tori went to prom with a friend on Friday night. She looked so pretty!!!!!! They had a good time. After the actual prom the party animals went to IHOP and was home by 1:30. :) Fine by me!
A REALLY BAD DAY
Hopefully Melecia can get her calmed down.
It is so hard not to be discouraged.
PRAY SPECIFICALLY
I believe in specific prayer. Our family has many needs.
Pray for mom. Pray for me as I care for her. Pray for Tori, Sam and Steve and we try to balance it all. Mom has sweet moments, sad moments, mean moments, and those moments I can't even describe - I call them "I don't know what planet she is on moments..."
Pray for my sister Pam, she came through knee surgery okay on Friday -but the recovery begins.
Pray for my other sister Judy and her husband Charlie - right now they are headed for heart tests. Charlie is disabled because of his heart. And they received some bad news financially this weekend. I am praying that God turns it around for them. It doesn't seem fair that they keep getting hit with bad news.
Pray for us - we are hurting financially. I have applications filled out for part-time jobs. I call them non-thinking jobs- I don't want to feel or think. Just work. We need the $ desperately. Quite frankly I am sick of worrying about groceries and gas when I pay bills.
I know God will provide - He always has. He opens the right door at the right time.
ALZHEIMER'S
I have been thinking about this disease a lot lately. It is such a part of my life.
Dad had Alzheimer's. His sister Alma did too. Mom has it - her sisters Evie and Bobbie did too. And from what mom describes - I bet her mom did too. It is a horrible disease. It is not fair. There has to be a cure - there has to be a way to treat it. It robs us of so much. Robs the patient of so much. What is going on in science labs and hospital's around the world?
I try to think what am I supposed to be learning from this? To see two parents suffer from the same disease -but so dramatically different. Everything I knew about Alzheimer's I knew from dad. Mom is so very different. There is no predicting their behavior. It is light switch. You can peg sundowning time -you just don't know what they will do. Yesterday we ate around 4:00 - gave her medicine at 5:30. Kept the house quiet on a low stress TV show and and semi-dark and that seemed to help considerably. She went to bed at 8:30. So last night was good. Friday night, Saturday and Saturday night, early Sunday afternoon - not so good.
I am thankful for Melecia. She has a gift. She is able to get mom to cooperate and do things that I cannot. And she has told me to be prepared for bad days - that not all of them will be good.
SOUR MOOD
"
Boy am I ashamed.
We sang the old Hymn "How Great Thou Art" and I just stared crying. I had been questioning God and myself all week - "Where are you God? Why do we keep having these stumbling blocks and problems? Can't we have just one normal - drama free week?" God has not left me - He has not forgotten me. I have forgotten He is there. I have forgotten that He sees exactly what I am...what we are going through. I haven't been looking up - I have been frantic trying to solve things myself.
God loves me....loves you.
Please forgive my friends if I am come across as negative......

Diet Coke, sheets, cushions, socks and pillows!
She took all cushions, pillows, sheets off beds and couches.
I cannot find her socks. I have no clue where they are.
Needless to day it has been a rough weekend. I am tired. So is mom.
Pray for a good week!

$15
She couldn't find that $15 last night, she kept pouring her purse out. I found it folded very small - stuck behind a card. I thought her having the money in her purse would help her feel secure - it has made her paranoid.
We haven't had a good week at all.

PRAYER NEEDED
Also be in prayer for my brother-in-law. Charlie (I have wrote about him a time or two) - he is disabled with a heart condition. Today he didn't receive such a good report - he goes back to the doctor on Monday for tests. Pray for him and my sister, Judy.
HONEST WOMAN
Mom called me the other day. She was thinking that I was just livingg with Steve. She said..."Becky you need to get a certificate...you just can't trust men these days...get a certificate showing you are his wife. That way you won't be arrested."
I told her I was an honest woman.
ha ha ha
1ST YEAR COMPLETED!
(She was stressing about two grades - she woke me up at midnight last night when grades were posted to celebrate - I wasn't as excited then as I am now! Sorry about that Tori!)
Love you.
Just too funny not to share!!!!!!!
I stay on the phone with her while she takes it. I just didn't hear a lot of the noise she normally makes when taking a pill smaller than a baby aspirin - she gags and chokes - that is funny in itself. I asked her "Well, did you take it?" She said, "Yes, Becky I did." "Are you sure?" I ask again. She said..."Yes Becky, I don't lie on Sundays." I said... 'Mom it is Thursday." She said.... "Oh well."

I dont speak French, and he doesn't speak southern...
Monday a French-Candaian called - I was on this call 29 minutes and 26 seconds. Mainly because we couldn't understand each other.
Personally I think southern is easier to learn than French. I wonder what the French word for ya'll is?
A NOT SO GOOD DAY....
Though I hate that the following happened - I am glad it happened - so others could see what I have been going through for awhile.
Melecia came in at mom's yesterday - she started looking for the spaghetti she cooked the night before to warm up for mom's lunch - she couldn't find it - looked everywhere she could possibly think of. She finally opened the dishwasher, and saw the spaghetti in a garbage bag and she had run the dishwasher. Ugh! Some other food items cooked and not cooked have disappeared - we have no clue where they could be. Melecia looked all over the house and I did too. My luck I will find stuff poured in a purse or something like that. Ugh.
All the way around it was not a good day for her. She didn't sleep much - we locked every door and window we could think of - and she just wandered - finally falling asleep on the couch. She ate a good breakfast this morning - took her morning medicine. So prayerfully she will have a better day today.
Funny note: When I got to her house yesterday I had some cookies and cake from a bakery - she was like a kid "Oh, you brought me cookies, now I don't have to go get ice cream!"

MS. SHARON
I am so proud of my Tori - she stayed two hours after getting off work to sit with Ms. Sharon while her family drove to pick her up. I had the pleasure of spending the last 30 or so minutes with Tori and Ms. Sharon. She is retired Air Force and a retired Lab Tech from the VA Hospital. Her daughter and grandson pulled up and I saw on ther daughter's face all the emotions that I have felt over the past four years. She is jsut beginning on this journey and is trying to get help. She took all keys away and has no clue where she found the set she had. Her main issue is that she is 58 years old and is being told she is not old enough to receive assistance. Makes me sick. This sweet lady is a veteran and is sick, needs help.
I have said it before and I will say it again. I hate this disease..I see no purpose in it.
But to give you visual...here is Ms. Sharon - please pray for her and her family. They seem so sweet and loving.
HAPPY HAIRCUT
PICTURE FROM 14TH BIRTHDAY
MOM DO YOU LIKE THIS DRESS?
I RECOMMEND THIS....
I use it as a deodorizer, I mop my floors with it twice a week, spray my shower curtain liners every day, garbage cans, counter tops, etc. At first there is slight clean scented odor (similar to what they use in hospitals and doctor offices) - then it disappears along with any bad odors lingering in the air. I absolutely love it.

I look forward to watching you grow!

WHAT TO DO WITH MYSELF
Am I being lazy? I would like to say I am just recuperating from total exhaustion.
Hmmph!
SHAME ON ME
For years those words meant Tori and I staying up doing them together, she wanting...demanding my input and help.
Sam brought home a project, and boy did I mess up.. I started tweaking and changing. And I hurt his feelings terribly. I felt so small. He didn't need my advice - he had done an awesome job. I asked for his forgiveness.
The difference between Tori and Sam - she would want me to help to the point of doing a project - Sam just wants to show me his work - he knows what he is going to do.
Shame on me!

TO MY FRIENDS..
Diane - For a person who talks all day, I don't have the words to adequately say what you mean to me. Who knew when you made that call to sign up for Children's Choir how our friendship would blossom? You understand me. You listen, you never judge, you hurt when I hurt, rejoice when I rejoice. You understand the difference $10 can make. You gave me shoes when our dress code changed, you took mom a grilled cheese sandwich. You are beautiful raising a beautiful - awesome daughter. You amaze me with all that you do and handle - you do it all with grace and humility.
Carla - I met you in Sunday School and we clicked. How cool is that? We relate to clean houses, mowed yards, love of our kids (we both have one of each), You love fiercely and stand up for me! You even...hmmph with me every day. I have learned so much from you and your husband. You guys are wonderful examples of a strong marriage. You have done so much for me personally. Praying, encouraging, you have taken mom lunch, brought her to me for a dr's appointment. I cannot thank you enough for being who you are.
Nancy - I have known you the longest. You and your girls helped me raise Tori and Sam. Watched them when I was working mutlitple jobs. You have the sweetest presence and quiet strength. I love how you try to solve my problems when you have so much spinning in your world. You have three awesome kids - and have every reason to be proud. I hate when I miss your calls and hate getting your voicemail - because you always make me feel better about myself when I am low. You are loved!
Julie - We met at work. I love you to death. Right now you are facing trial after trial - but you maintain such a good sense of humor. You love your mother. You love your kids. You work so hard, and keep working even when so many around you are rude to the point of mean. You laugh with me, you encourage me. One of may favorite memories is eating pizza with you at the park and just talking.
Sue - You are so brave. You are facing a battle no one should. I love you. You are an encourager and take no bull from anyone. I love the way you love your husband when he is mopping the kitchen floors. I love to hear about your walks on the beach eating cotton candy.
Stacey D - We don't talk as much as we used to. Life has us both so busy. I have never forgotten all that you have done for me and the kids. I cherish those times we hung out on Friday night watching the kids play, eating pizza and talking along with the other Brighton Babes.
Tracey W - Tori's other mother. You were there for me in the darkest and lowest of my times. I am simply blessed to know you. You are an awesome person. I love you.
Joan - How I miss you! But I cherish those times and I am so glad you have found someone to love and care for you. Excited to hear you will be a grandmother or "noanie" soon. You have two awesome boys - you did good!
I have so many other friends, Debbie K, Trish O, Lynn, Christie, Connie, Pattie B, Karma, I am so blessed to know you.
I have no idea what I have done to deserve having so many wonderful folks in my life...but I simply say thank you for being you!
HAPPY TEARS
Mom has never looked as good and healthy as she did yesterday. The wonderful Home Health Care Provider - had mom exercise, walk. She ate three complete meals, took a bath, did her hair, makeup, etc. I wish I had the words to adequately describe how I felt to see mom look so good and happy. She was laughing and joking.
I have known for a long time- mom needed much more than I could give her. I would struggle with guilt that I was failing her in some way - just doing the best I could - learning as we went along on this journey. Wanting to do more - but not knowing how. This time has been covered in prayer along with the person sent. God sent the right person at the right time.
I feel less stress. I wish I could describe to you the worry that is not with me. Knowing mom is being taken care of so wonderfully. Thank you to my dear friends for praying and for always being so supportive. I am blessed to know you. I may write a post shortly about you all! :)

ARE YOU READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL?????
Sam, you had a great 7th grade year, you pulled grades up, stayed active in church, played football and you are now mowing mema's yard. I am so proud of you. Love you.
DRESSING UP
She has managed to go to school full time and work over 30 hours a week. Plus she helps with mom.
Tori, I just want to say I am so proud of you. I love you!
Mom, ADT, Fingernails, the Nurse and the Medicine
Yesterday she (won't give her name without her permission) gave mom a manicure and did her hair. Mom met me at my car - so proud of her nails and hair. (she still wants to feel like a girl!)
With her home health care comes ADT - which normally would be a good thing. But mom didn't like having an installer in the house and she doesn't like having that box in the house. We were testing it last night - and she told the operator on the other end - "Don't expect me to pay for this ugly thing!"
In this transition of health care, insurance, etc...her main medicine is not getting approved. Doctor gave us some samples - same medicine - but it looks different from her normal medicine. And this is how funny her mind works. She forgets who I am sometimes but she knew the medicine was different looking - wasn't going to take it - took some convincing. She just fussed, then gagged when she swallowed the pill. Ha ha.

I looked around on various web-sites on how to handle giving baths to Alzheimer Patients - and truth be known - they hate hate baths.
Sooooo ............... after researching - I came up with the idea of typing up a letter from her doctor - and it said the following:
HOME CARE - FOLLOWUP
Patient is to take a bath twice a week to prevent
Urinary Tract Infection and foot infection. (I am going to work on three times a week!-but she does take good sponge baths)
Have patient use Anti-bacterial soap and clean warm water.
Note to Patient and caregiver: Bathing is very important, , you should not take a bath by yourself. Please allow nurse and family to assist to prevent patient from falling and hurting her knee and lower back.
For our records – please sign this letter so we can track your progress. We will keep this in your file. We need it for insurance. Stay healthy!
I took a bath today on ____________________.

Mom has always been hard to love, she just never ever seemed happy. I know she loved me - all of us - but she just never expressed it. She was more quick to criticize or say we couldn't do something than encourage us to try.
But last night - mom wasn't physically violent (Praise the Lord!) - but she was verbally mean - and I truly say she was very mean. Said some hateful things about me. It is hard not to be hurt or broken hearted - becase I wonder if that is how she always felt?
Bath time -
She hates bath time - I have to figure out a way for bath time. Pray for this!

Sam was saved last night. He attended a church drama with friends last night - he was late getting home - I called and he sounded strange on the phone - said he would be home shortly.
I sent him a text asking him if he was okay - he said in NO....
He came in - grabbed my hand and led me to his room -and he started crying. I asked him what was wrong - and he said everything - and I knew then what was up - I asked him point blank - "Sam if you died tonight - would you go to heaven or hell...." He answered "Hell" - then he said he realized all that he had done wrong, etc. So I was given the ultimate gift of leading him through scripture, answering questions, praying with him - and he realized he is a sinner - he prayed and asked Jesus into his heart and life.
Please pray for his continued growth and strength.

One thing that drives me insane (don't know if that is an appropriate word) is the amount of food my mother goes through at her house - considering she is with me the bulk of the time.
The next time this happens, I will take a picture. But yesterday morning I stopped by moms on my way into work - she had a good Monday and wanted to stay home that night. So I go in the house and see the table set for two. Two plates, two bowls, two cups of coffee. One in her spot and one in what used to be my dads spot. Sometimes she will prepare a meal for her mother. She still has the heart of a wife and daughter.
But really and truly - she goes through 3 gallons of milk a week! Whew. She drinks milk and a lot of diet coke.

Thursday, March 22, 2012
I tell mom - "Mom, you are going to take a bath" - she gives me a look that used to strike fear in my 10 year old mind, heart and body... But I stayed strong! I run the bath. We kind of have small bathrooms - but in the bathroom she takes, her purse, shoes, sweater, and her overnight bag - there is no room. She gets in the tub - refuses to sit down. I say as patiently as I can, "Mom sit down..." She says "NO" - and just stands there - the water is the right temperature - so I say "Mom, sit down or I am turning on the shower (she hates showers)...always a tub person." So with the same dirty look - she finally sits down - thank goodness. I help with her hair - she is still mad. Tells me to move - as I move - little did I know that somehow the bathroom door was nudged open by our momma dog-who is behind me, I trip on her and almost land on the puppy who had one of mom's shoes in his mouth.
Get the bath done - in the process bad caregiver me realizes mom's toenails are long overdue for clipping. So after she is dressed I fill a pan of water and baby oil to soften the nails up she soaks her feet- with each clip - she kicks at me. While I am doing this - she decides she needs to clean out her purse. The puppy has now pulled the bathroom rug into the hallway, found a kleenex mom dropped - too funny.
But after an exhausting HOUR and a half of bath time, nail clipping, hair drying, lotioning up. Mom looks, feels and smells better. Her comment "Well, we need to do that more often." ha ha ha ha.
_____________________________________________
So, I am thinking my bathroom is a mess, my living room is a mess - let's just groom the dog - so I get her outside - cut her hair - I allow her to recover from that while I am giving puppy his first bath. He doesn't like baths - as he did everything but jump out of the tub. Then momma dogs turn - she is a true woman - loves loves her baths.
Then I have to clean up - I sweep, vacuum, mom, bleach the tub - which somehow in my mind forces me to wash the baseboards and clean the light fixture in the bathroom.
______________________________________________
Then mom says..."Becky you really need to relax....you should go take a bath."
I need cameras in my house. I could make a fortune.
Monday, March 12, 2012
Friday - I am going to my very first ever Bunco game - I have to take mom - she was restless - I was on edge - I had fun though - wish I could have stayed longer. Everyone was super sweet.
Saturday - Took mom to get her haircut and to walk (she walked one lap and fussed the whole time!) Made an awesome pie for a fundraiser for Sam's Bible Study group. (it fetched $20!) Cooked up a few meals for mom. I go back to moms (she has been alone for maybe 4 hours) she wasn't talking - I am thinking she had a mini stroke or something! I get her in the car - get to my house - she eats, walks around - still no talking. Then Steve and I decide to take her to the hospital - just as we are down the highway she starts talking. Was it a mini stroke or TIA? Was it daylight savings? Was she tired? I don't know! We have a Dr's appt tomorrow and an appointment to be evaluated for home health. (praise the Lord!)
Sunday - mom sleeps until 10:00 am (no way was I waking her up!) - we miss church - but I take her home after we visit my sister. Then we go to PM services - she did great - spent the night with us.
This morning - of course we have three very busy, very active, not housebroken puppies in the house - I keep sanitizer and resolve handy. (they are not touching grass until they receive shots or leave my house) - one poopies in the floor - mom steps in it...I was trying to get mom to sit and quit walking - well she wasn't listening.....she has her breakfast plate in her hand she finally sits where I can clean her shoe and the trail she has left. Then I start looking for her breakfast - she has sat down on that - another mess! ha ha ha ha.
My week has begun.
Monday, February 27, 2012
Tori bought her own car! Yeah Tori!!!!!! She did it all herself. We are so excited for her. She was so happy - now it is back to her never being at home. Kind of liked having her hang out. :) I learned a lot about her life in the time I was taking her back and forth to school and work.
Size 9 - Sam wears a size 9 in men's shoe! When did that happen? What happened to the little boy who wore little boy size 12 light up Power Ranger shoes? Hmmmmmm... The little boy who liked little green army men and buzz light year? Now he is into Airsoft, DC Shoes and had a girls number written in Sharpie on his hand. Hmmmpph!
Our dog had puppies - three weeks ago. She had six - three died. One is now spoken for - we have two left. Just say the word. I may try to post pictures real soon. They are cute. Cocker Spaniel mix.
Weird winter weather - let's face it - we didn't have a winter this year. Our yard needs cleaning up big time. Bulbs are coming up all around.
Church - we want to go home -but we have to get to church to do it!
Yesterday - I was getting ready to go to church - I got a call - had to go check on her. I cooked her breakfast - helped with dishes and clothes. She calms down consierably. I leave with in my mind that I will be back over later to go to evening services since the morning was shot. Well, no, she was totally confused and uncooperative. Get her to my house - she just calms down. I guess she was lonely - I don't know. I didn't feel good at all yesterday and I had visions of resting. ha ha ha
Friday & Saturday. We take her out to eat at her favorite restaurant - she gets fish -though she says she is not hungry - and proceeds to eat all of it. I take her to the grocery store with me - she walks the whole store with me - twice- I want her tired! We get to my house - with me being determined she is going to take a bath - she is worse than a 9 year old boy - but we get that done - hair washed and rolled up - dried - bed time snack and she passes out. Praise the Lord! She sleeps from 9:30-6 which is a long time for her. I take her home in the morning. Saturday we had plans to take Sam out to find some shoes and a few clothes that wouldn't break the budget - hmmph! He still need clothes -but we filled in a few gaps. Tori was able to take care of mom for me - until Sunday morning - whew!.
I love my mom. I know this is a season. But today I am just tired and discouraged. Oh, she can say some funny things, some sweet things and most defintely some shocking things at the least expected times. But for both my parents to go through this hateful disease just makes me mad some days. I guess I sound selfish. Physically mom is strong. Mentally she is a small child. She has days where is she is of sounder mind. But those days are becoming fewer and far between.
Thank you for your continued prayers!

Sorry it has been awhile since I have posted!
Mom is the same - not worse - not better. I am working on getting assitance for her care. It is a process - but she needs way more than I can give.
Steve's uncle passed away after a 15 year battle with cancer. His funeral is this weekend. Please be in prayer for his family.
Sam tried out for football for next season - he was so excited - he loves it. He will have weight traning next week.
Tori doing well in college - still working on getting a car. I know it is frustrating for her not having one - but she has done real well attitude wise handling the inconvenience of it all. Thankfully her work has adjusted her schedule, she rides in with me.
Our dog had puppies - six total - three lived. I truly believe she had them too soon - she had them last Friday - and by my math that was about two weeks early. I will post pictures of the puppies real soon. They are cute.
Will post again soon.

Monday, January 23, 2012
I must admit I was very distracted in November and December - more so than usual. We were getting hit from every angle - mom was pretty bad.
I did not stay on top of school grades - we have faltered - it is recoverable. But I have failed Sam and his teachers.
We just move on from here.....
Sam you are smart! Let's get moving in the right direction.
Friday, January 20, 2012
I must admit 2011 was just a rough year all the way around. But mid - December I decided I needed to clean out the junk. Literally.
I have cleaned out closets, drawers, the garage, the attic, you name it - it has been cleaned - well, not Sam's room...his is a hard hat area - and I will be tackling that one soon... ha ha.
A strong Christian man here at work said this to me and it stuck...he speaks plain - with no fancy words - just tells you like it is. He said "I have learned that if you have a freight train running through your mind - it is hard to pray and give God everything."
How true. I have started cleaning out my mind and heart. How? I have changed what I watch on TV, what I listen to on the radio, even what I read - even if it is the magazines at the check out counter, filter emails and what I read online. And oh what a difference it has made. I was numb to the world around me for so long - insensitive to things that used to offend - like the world - I was glossing over things. And I felt so far away from God. Further than I ever had been. My worship and spiritual growth was hindered.
Now is my life all peaches and cream? No, we are still struggling in so many areas, but I have a sense of freedom and peace that I havent' had a in a long time. I am God's child - He loves me - He know my needs - and my pain. I am closer to Him. I read His word and learn something every day.
Lord, please forgive me when I glossed over things, avoided your truth. Lord, fill me with You, I want to see your face and your eyes.
Tuesday, January 10, 2012
My mind is so wandering at work today - tons of things twirling around....I guess I am not being a good employee.
I hear the forklift driver in our warehouse beeping the horn to let others know he is coming...or it beeps with a ding when backing up....
Wouldn't it be nice if we had the sounds of beeps and dings to warn us with just some of what hits us? Would we turn to God if we knew?
Probably not - we would try to fix it ourselves -
Now I know why we don't receive beeps and dings.....
Mom has her Days and Nights totally mixed up. I am so tired. She will sleep from 9-12 at night and then is up all night. It is virtually impossible to keep her in bed and keep her awake during the day - especially when I am not there. But I guess if she is sleeping during the day I know she is safe and not getting into trouble. Ha ha. I have called her doctor to see if there is something...I don't want her a zombie - but if we both don't get some sleep soon - we are both going to be sick.
Alzheimer's - I have said it before - I hate this disease. Ronald Regans daughter called it The Long Goodbye....trust me - it is. Dad died 10 years ago this year from complications of the same disease. I have lost three aunts to the same disease - I don't see the purpose of it - I really don't.
Mom knows my face -but doesn't know me. I don't know what year she is in right now - but it is certainly not 2012. She talks of her parents and sisters.
Her purse...she loves her purse - I hate it at time- she misplaces it all the time. Empties it out every time it is in her hands - then we spend a lot of time looking for something she thought was in there.
Her Sweater - she loves loves loves her wool sweater -she sleeps in it.
She is eating better -I have to sit right beside her so she will eat. I have found she eats better in front of the TV. Go figure. I grew up with the TV off at meal time. Right now her favorite foods are home made Chili, BBQ (Always BBQ - she used to hate BBQ), regular Chips A Hoy and Wavy Lays. I should write the companies above and tell her story - maybe we could get samples. She also likes Pillsbury Grands biscuits and crescent rolls.
Patience - I need to be more patient - Lord please forgive me when I am not.
Church - we took her to church Sunday night - she loved it - going to try to get her in the routine of it. Nothing more powerful than God's word.

Other happenings.......
We have taken hit after hit. Please pray for our family. I realized today this is the first time I am not actually working multiple jobs in I can't tell you when. Steve is looking for part time-weekend or after hours work - pray that door opens. However I am willing to clean houses, etc if needed for the extra income - I know God will provide in His Time - may I remember that at all times! Compared to what so many other families are going through - we are blessed. But my friend DC - put it best - but many of us are just a paycheck or two from losing everything. And she is right - there really is no Middle Class anymore. Sorry to sound so whiny!
Tori qualified for another semester of scholarships. I am so proud of her. She works hard all the way around. Now Tori - not to embarrass you -but you don't need a boyfriend! Just focus on yourself and education! (help me out here fellow moms!)
Sam is doing well in school and continues to grow. Boy can he eat. He is going to be a big guy. I am so proud of him too. He enjoyed football and loves his coach.
Church Limbo - I am pretty sure we will be going back home. We have been absent for two long. Not good! I so love attending church and enjoying the fellowship of everyone. They are like family to me.
Well...enough for now...I may post pictures of Sam's first semi-formal dance later.
Have a good one.
Thanks for caring.

I am not a big fan of Alzheimer's - I just don't see the purpose of it. The mind is a complex machine -
Well, after careful thought and sheer exhaustion - I cannot work the H & R Block Job. I need to get mom situated - it was just too much. It wasn't fair to H & R (though they were more than willing to work with me), my regular job, mom and my little family.
God will provide. Steve is looking for a part-time job. I will try to clean houses on weekends.
I still feel like a quitter.

Well......
We have been praying for extra income - I will be working part - time at H & R Block during tax season.
Pray for balance, energy and strength. Pray that Steve, Mom, and Kids adjust accordingly. God opened this door.
I just wrapped up my last week of my at home bookkeeping job that I have been doing for three years - I was sad for awhile - but it will be nice to not have to "work" at home once I have been at work all day. Just swapping one job for the other I suppose - but it won't be at home. We will still deliver books/magazines for a bit.
Please pray we get just a little stable financially.

Mom is getting worse. It is sad. I am discouraged beyond belief. Though I must admit the past two days have not been that bad.
She dusted my entire house last night - she was going to town with the Endust and feather duster. Whew.
I don't think she knows me as her daughter - I am just someone who takes care of her. Last night after work I went to her house - took her some groceries and dinner - she said, "
I am going with you!" She packed her little bag was out the door.
The other day I was entering invoices and running reports for my last few weeks of in home bookkeeping - she stood over my shoulder the whole time - I couldn't thnk - then my internet/computer crashed - I was so impatient and ill tempered. It is no excuse - but she forgets when I am short with her.
It is literally like having a toddler - watching every step or move.
I have said many a time - this is for a season. God has a plan - I just wish I would put my words and thoughts into action.

Mom had a good weekend. Well, as good as can be expected.
She wanted to do Christmas Cards - we sat at my kitchen table - she painstakingly signed her name, or Mom, or Aunt Martha on about 20 cards - she would get frustrated if she made a mistake - I said - that's okay - here is another one. I hope those folks who receive her card will treasure it......I want to tell them to save that snippet of handwriting for years to come.
She ate quite a bit. For a little woman she has a huge appetite at times.
A funny...Saturday morning I went over and cooked her breakfast...she said "I already ate!" I said "really? what did you eat?" She said "I hate chips a hoy cookies - chocolate covered cherries and peppermint sticks..." Ha ha ha. She did end up eating breakfast - loved my canned biscuits. Ha ha. I told her I would give her the recipe.
I was taking her home this morning she saw a building on what used to be a country store...she said "your daddy used to go there to buy bread and milk...I would tell him he was going out of his way and paying twice as much...but he wanted to support the little man who ran that store." (That is so my dad - once he took breakfast to a Union protester at a local Walmart - and dad picketed with him - I was so proud - he stood up for what the believed)
Overall it was a good weekend for her - but last night was rough. She had been with me - wanted to go home - I took her home - washed some dishes and clothes. Then left...I was tired - went to bed as soon as I got home. Phone rang a short while later - it was mom - she wanted to come "home" (my house) I went and picked her up - she had packed up her entire bedroom and bathroom in garbage bags - ready to move. Sad and sweet. We only brought one bag - the one with PJ's.

Our family is hurting. I am tired and I am drained.
I am working on getting help for mom - it is such a process - doesn't seem fair or balanced. One place has called me back - they seem to have a sweet spirit about them- so I am going to follow them through the process. I don't know if it will lead to home care or a nursing home - I am so sad about it . She needs way more than I can provide. I hate Alzheimer's disease - please tell me the purpose of this disease?
We are hurting financially. There is no money for Christmas. Heck we barely make it now. This is getting to me more than I thought. Truth be known we are hanging on by our fingernails.
Tori's car is not working - we thought we had another car - but that didn't work out.
Other arrows and darts have been thrown our way - and I have passed my breaking point. I had a breakdown at work - how unprofessional.
Please pray for us.

Boy does it get in the way.
Here lately, life's arrows have been thrown are way in a speed that would make the best marksman stand amazed.
- Three car wrecks in August has resulted in me finding car insurance for all of us. Good grief.
- A signifcant loss of income has hit us.
- Mom is getting worse
- Poor Tori has had car problems from every where - I hate that I can't help her right now - my heart aches for her. I feel like I have failed her somehow.
- Money for groeceries and bills would be nice. ha ha
- Ex Husband & child support - I will not bash - but I will let you fill in the blanks. Hmmph.
Church - we are still in church limbo I hate it. I need to settle. To serve. To have a Sunday School Class.
Bible - I am reading more - and boy can I tell if i don't. I have so far to go - but feel a little more at peace than I used to.
Forgiveness - I need to forgive. I need to ask for forgiveness from people. There are those around me who need to forgive - I don't think they will see happiness if the don't.
A blessing..this may sound silly. If you have AT&T - invest in Road Side Assistance. It is awesome. $2.99 a month. We utilized it on poor Tori's car - it is money well spent. Thank you AT & T!
Please pray for a financial miracle for us!

Okay, forgive me but just allow me to vent via this blog for a moment.
I know we have so much to be thankful for. But I am so tired of worrying about groceries, gas, car issues and such. We are so struggling. I know we are not alone in this boat - but goodness it sure feels like it.
Mom has kept us busy......read what happened last night:
We have been up all night with mom. She went to bed about 9:00 - I went to bed around 10:00 - she woke up at 12:40. So I did get a couple of hours of sleep. But she never went back to sleep until it was time to get up!
Last night she woke up so confused - it was unreal. She started pounding on walls, screaming "nurse, nurse" - the tv was on - she started knocking on it thinking it was a window- yelling "help help". I tried calming her down - she sat down for a minute - took her shoes off - I thought she was going back to bed - but oh how wrong - she came over and started hitting/beating me in the head with her little Reebok Tennis Shoe. Unreal! It is hard to fight her off because I don't want to hurt her. She stopped - but then she took the glass of water that I keep by the bedside for her - and poured it on my head. All doors and windows were locked - but I tried keeping her in one room to isolate any damage to the house. She finally went to sleep at 4:40.
I am so blasted tired, discouraged and sad. I need some good news!

A few scriptures I have read...
John 16:33 - In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world!
Philippians 4:19 My God will meet all your needs according to His glorious riches in Christ Jesus. (notice he says NEEDS)
Psalm 72:12 He will deliver the needy who cry out, the afflicted who have no one to help.
Psalm 132.15 I will abundantly bless her provision: I will satisfy her poor with bread.
Deut 31:8 The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.
I am grateful for glimpses into my mom's childhood and teen years - explains so much about her.
I am grateful for friends who love you no matter what and because they want to.
I am grateful for a messy 13 year old boy who despite his allergy to soap and water - loves his mom and will leave me notes to say I love you.
I am grateful for a soon to be 19 year old who knows the value of hard work and a good work ethic.
I am grateful for the husband who lays out my towel in the mornings.
I am grateful for the ringing phones at work - means I have a job. (though boy do I fuss at times!)
I am so grateful for my washing machine. Thinking this morning - how lovely the water sounds when it is filling the tub.
I am grateful for Dollar Tree -where you can buy foil pans, paper plates, misc stuff without breaking the bank.

I face some changes in my life. I am so hurting and worried. Wondering where God is in all of this. Wondering if He sees me, hears me, or even if He loves me. It seems we are being hit from all sides.
Trying to avoid a pity party - for the first time in years - I am genuinely worried about Christmas. I know presents aren't important - but I so enjoy giving.

Okay - it drives me insane - but all doors are locked, all windows are locked....mom wanders at night if she doesn't sleep - she can't hurt herself. I have snacks ready for her in the kitchen, pillow and blankets for the couch and the TV on low - but no bright lights - so she can just rest there if needed. I hear every movement, every sound, I can't relax when she is up and moving. But I have learned if I try to get her to lay back down - she gets mad - so I am working around this night time thing.
But really it is so hard for me to relax. You want to know how I know how many times she gets up in the middle of the night? Washcloths. Everytime she gets up she washes her face with a fresh washcloth - last night - five washcloths....when I got up this morning - she was sleeping on the couch - fully dressed with purse in her lap. I will take a picture.......sound asleep - straight up.

Last night - I cooked hamburgers on the grill -man they were good. Also made scalloped potatoes, baked beans and peach cobbler. I cooked enough - so everyone would have it in their lunch today. Everything was so good. Everyone loved it last night -mom ate every bit of hers. I took her home this morning - and placed a plate for her lunch in the fridge.
I just called her - I said "Hi mom, whatcha doing?" She said "Im trying to eat this terrible lunch that girl fixed for me."
Ha ha ha ha ha ha.
