Another pic of Tori...

Not a morning person...

Sam hated having his picture taken.

Here he is last Friday morning. See how thrilled he looks.

Easter Celebration

Last night we went to church for the Easter Celebration. Before we went, we stopped for a bite to eat. Mom went too and did really well.

Here are some pics

Mom eating her salad.

The orchestra.

Kids choir...

Led by ....

Diane ...my friend.-

Student jam...my babies I taught in choir and Sunday School for years. I miss serving!

It was wonderful! Mom sat through it...a little antsy.

We went to Walmart afterward...I ran in. Fastest Walmart run ever.

Mom was horrible when we arrived home.

But overall a good day!

Prayer Needed....

I write of everything else...please be in prayer. I went to the dentist &9,000 for what has to be done. In advance.

I'm so discouraged. I feel ugly and much like a failure. I just want to smile that's all.

Excercise at desk...

Lots of little videos in you tube - just did a five minute one for arms. No weights needed but it was a killer.

Pretty girl.

Had to share this pic...

A fall........

Our kitchen set is on its last limping leg..but it is going to have to wait...other things come first.

But it may move up on the list....

Friday, I was sitting  at the table getting mom's medicine ready for this week. She sat in my lap... Chair tips back... Mom grabs table...Does not fall..I do! I hit china cabinet fall in dogs dish. Somehow table falls in top of me. Mom is still up. I push table, get up and immediately slip on dog water. Both kids couldnt hear me, Steve wasn't here.

I get up..get mom to sit in couch. Threw the chair in garage. Yes, I threw it. Change..get cleaned up. Two more teeth in back broke..( 2:30 am had mouthful of blood) I am sore head to toe.u

Thankfully, mom is fine. She has a new thing..sitting in mine and Melecia's lap.

Need prayer! I feel horrible.

Happy Birthday Abby

My great niece, Abby, will be 8 this week. Her party was yesterday. The weather was perfect for the outside party.

Barney......

Barney visited the vet this week. He was "fixed"...though he would say he wasn't broken....

Before the vet...

After the vet...it hasn't  slowed him down at all.

His momma missed him!!! Love my Kylee girl.

RUSTY

Rusty started his new job last week - it will be local after today when he completes training.  God is good.

He will be moving into my mom's house - until he can get on his feet.  The guy that was living there was transferred..  It will be a win - win - it helps Rusty - and the house won't be empty.  However, like the guy before him - not too sure if housekeeping will be a priority- no big deal - I won't see it.  bahahahahahaha.

I am so thankful Rusty has no cancer in his body. God has shown up and shown out.

My Friend Nancy

My friend Nancy was diagnosed with breast cancer last fall...she had a double mastectomy.  Just a few weeks ago - she had her plastic surgery done.

She is still weak and tired.  Her dog died - and to help cheer her up...her kids adopted a dog for her - Nancy took dog for a walk -(he's big) somehow leash wrapped and she fell and broke  her leg severely.  She is having surgery today.

To say she is depressed and discouraged is beyond words.

Please pray for her, her husband Ronnie - they are taking a few hits.  Thankfully their children are helping out.  She will be out of work for three more weeks.

She is one of the sweetest people you could ever meet and know.  I am blessed to know her.

BACK ON TRACK.....

I have slipped off the wagon big time with diet and exercise - going to forgive myself and get pack at it.

I have a huge weakness in bread and certain sweets... and here is one of them.  I bought individual packs for Steve and Sam for breakfast - to keep from buying the larger back - to avoid temptation - didn't work - I had to have some!   (I am so busy - I cheat on breakfast for them now - I just don't feel like cooking and cleaning up breakfast every day and I am a breakfast advocate!)

But here is my weakness.....

Sigh..... I will no longer buy - and go back to cooking a tad more.  Oh, I will miss  you.

Absolute Anger and Disgust

Warning - if you have a weak stomach - do not look at pictures.

Steve had to a "set out" yesterday - basically an eviction - normally it I just people who do not pay their bills, some of them drug dealers, etc.  (he works in bad areas of town) But yesterday he was heartbroken and teared up when he talked about it.

They had to "set out" a 91 year old Alzheimer's patient - a widow. Living alone in horrid conditions.  How no one noticed or cared to report, check on her, I will never know.  Thankfully Steve was there and he was able to guide folks in how to talk to her.  Human services and the police were called.  She had paid rent faithfully - and missed two months - someone - family I assume started spending her money.

I am livid....whomever had responsibility for her...whomever claims to love her and care for her belongs in jail.

But how management,  neighbors, family did not notice the below is what sickens me - surely there was a smell.  What really breaks my heart - look at the two little magnets on her fridge - the only normal in the house.  An American Flag Magnet.   The United States is drastically behind on treating and helping those with Alzheimer's compared to other countries like the  UK, Switzerland and a few others.  I am afraid it will only get worse. We have tracking devices and housing for prisoners living at home or in half-way  houses.  Assistance to those who continue to have children out of wedlock and they use drugs.  I had to fight insurance to cover "pull up" Depends instead of diapers- I reminded them that there is dignity and independence - both important.  They have literally sent me over 1000 diapers - one day we may use - but I can't send back - because they are a medical product - so that is wasted money on their part - but I have them put up.  I am my mother's voice. Obviously this little lady doesn't have anyone who cares........ You have to understand they do things that are strange - milk in closets, shoes in the freezer - money in Kleenex boxes - will go to store multiple times - take meds all at one time....... we knew the moment mom could no longer live by herself - we had to fib told her that her road was closed and they were working on it - and we have never looked back - she doesn't ask to go back to the home on  Hollygrove - she asks to go back to her childhood home or to California where she and dad lived in the 50's.

I am so mad.  When I really have time - I will become a strong voice and advocate for prevention, treatment of Alzheimer's.

I ask for prayer for this little lady - I don't know her name. She is a child of God - He knows and has protected her thus far. But I still want to knock someone out for letting it get this bad.

Sweet words

In the midst of our hellish day yesterday - mom said "thank you for all you do for me.  love you."

That was a gift!

Clean Up Complete

I just finished cleaning carpets with Sam's help - and technically we are not finished - he is going to finish for me tomorrow after school. And that is the room with the biggest need - mom's room.  We just can't do a whole lot when she is awake.  I have cleaned and cleaned all weekend. Laundry basket after laundry basket.  But I can tell you this - house looks and smells better.  To be hones, Tori's room was the worst.  But the germaphobic in me feels much better.  :)

I didn't rush - just did what I could when I could - my bed was the pile up point for laundry - but it is folded and put up.

We just snacked all weekend - except for last night - Steve and I went out to a local restaurant - I needed the break.  Today - I ran to dollar store and grocery store - and stopped by Sonic for my therapy drink.

Today, Mom is 84.  My sister Pam and niece Jennifer came by for a visit - mom was alert - and stayed calm all day - played with her babies.

Over all the weekend was okay - not going to lie - Saturday was hard - but a good nights sleep on Friday helped with that.  And today with mom behaving - was good.

Mount St. Martha Erupts

Today at approximately 10:15 am - Mount St. Martha erupted.
Warning...not for weak stomachs.......

Two years ago I could not have handled.  Today it didn't faze me.

We had the great poopie explosion - after a few days of constipation - or let me put it this way - a few days of not wanting to sit long enough to go potty - and then trouble builds up.

After two cocktails of Milk of Magnesia and prune juice  - and I surely thought one would have been enough - it happened.

And it happened in a big way - it would have been easier to clean her up and such - had she cooperated - but she was not in the mood for cooperating - she broke a hall table fighting me on the way to bathroom - leaving a trail of poopie along the way.  Ugh - tomorrow I am going to rent an industrial cleaner.  I scrubbed all I could with vinegar, gain and Odo-ban.

Took me an hour to get her cleaned up , dressed and settled to eat breakfast - I have literally been washing, scrubbing all day.  I just hung up shower curtain (yes that bad).

Again, if she had just followed me instead of fighting me and such - I would have no trail - I could have just put her in the tub - and it would have been a piece of cake - but nope.

Sam sat with her so I could cleaned up  - and bless his heart "Momma, I don't know how you do it."  And I honestly said "I don't either" - (I was questioning my sanity at that moment)

Steve and I priced linoleum flooring - we will put in her room, hallway and Tori's room  - a temporary low cost solution - but I think necessary - I think it will be feasible in about a month or two - it is at the point it is a necessity - I can't take it much longer and it will be so much easier to clean. Fortunately, Steve's brother - does awesome work - so we will have help - what we saw tonight at Lowes - has a wood floor look and my guesstimate was material would cost about $450.00,  But it will look better than this horrible carpet.

No longer...,

Today a friend lost her mother. She is no longer a caregiver. Her mother is in heaven...healed and whole.

I often wonder as my friend has and probably is...what do you do when you don't have to outline every second of your day? How long will it take for the emotional, spiritual, mental and physical exhaustion to go away? Or does it?

This little lady....

I love her so. She is my ministry. Right now like any involved in ministry I'm tired and discouraged. Tomorrow is a new day. Blessed for new beginnings!

Pray for my friend Karen. And for my friend Diane's family...her uncle passed away last night.

Wednesday...Wednesday...Wednesday

I had the hardest time getting out of bed this morning.  I do every morning.  It would help I suppose not to lay down for an hour after Steve and Sam leave in the morning - I should hop in the shower and get moving.  But noooooooooooooo I lay down.

I am at work trying to get motivated so I can motivate!

Thoughts

Suicide, cancer, Alzheimer's.......why?

A friend lost a family member to suicide.  I keep up with three blogs-children suffering -  plus what my nephew went through - cancer.  Alzheimer's I could write all day.

I know we live in a fallen world.  I know we as believers, children of God, will know no pain and will have complete healing.....

But I hate to see people hurting.  Suffering.  My heart breaks.

FIGHTING DISCOURAGEMENT

Fighting discouragement in a big way.  Need much prayer.

SATURDAY NIGHT DATE

We ate catfish here....Braden Station.   They have an all you can eat buffet - it is really good.  However - it pays for Steve to eat Buffet -but not me.  I could just order off the menu.  Sam watched mom for us.  It had been awhile since we ate there - they are only open two nights a week.  But it has eclectic decorations and a nice, comfortable, family atmosphere.

MOM AND SPRING

Spring is agreeing with mom - or is it vice versa?  Mom had literally stopped her daily, hourly cleaning and dusting - now she is back at it.  Unreal.  She seems stronger physically also.

And since I have written this before, since the Alzheimer's has progressed - mom has potty issues - constipation is horrible for an Alzheimer's patient - as is an UTI.  But for some reason - GOD! - She has been pretty regular and has not needed any type of medicine.  Yay!  You can tell she feels better.

She will sit in my desk chair and turn it toward the back door and watch outside - we try to get her go outside - but she doesn't want to - but just the sunshine in, does wonders.

Three Days....randomness.

I have been off the past three days - sick.  The doctor said I am tired and stressed.

A lot of female stuff going on - ugh!  I

I have rested well yesterday and today - I have slept a lot - and right now I am so tired.  My jaw where mom hit me a couple of weeks ago with her hair brush is really hurting.  I still ache all over and such - I am going to schedule a check up with my regular doctor.  I don't mean to sound whiny - but I can't take care of mom - or even function at work and here at home if I feel as yuck as I do.
I have checked emails from home - and handled some issues - and Sunday before I go in - I will review all of them.

Next weekend Steve and I are going to Nashville for a break away - we are leaving Friday after work.  Melecia will be staying with mom.  I have been looking online on things to do  (like we have never been before)but I am interested in the Opry and the General Jackson Cruise.  I have been looking for coupon codes and such.  Hotel is booked - I used every discount I could think of.

Today is  our Anniversary - 6 years.  Boy we have lived a life time in these six years. Both hurting from divorces - learning how to be married again.  Losing half our income in less than a year - mom getting sick - his dad  having heart surgery - one son in trouble - just life!

Tori and Sam are doing great.  I am so proud of them - they have a generous heart and giving spirit.

Took mom yesterday afternoon for a haircut - and that was an adventure.  Followed by a BBQ.  Then Dollar General - I have to remind her to pick up her feet - I am constantly saying Left, left, left right left.  We have a rhythm going.  She is playing more and more with her baby dolls.  And loves folding their blankets.   I don't understand Alzheimer's - it is a learn as you go experience - I don't care how many books are written - every case is different.

So many prayer requests...

Pray for my nephew Rusty - yet to find a job - but had an interview today that seems promising.

A member of our church gave birth to her baby two months prematurely - and the sweet little boy has developed pneumonia.

Memphis is still covered up in crime.  Kids are getting shot - little ones - it is heart breaking.

Tori has a friend -she and her husband were 4 or 5 months into pregnancy - the baby has died.  I cannot imagine.  They had images the new modern kind - so they have that strong connection.

My sister Judy and her husband Charlie - they are being hit from every direction - and I wish I could do more - praying God sends a miracle - only He can provide.

My friend Karen - her mom is in the hospital -and is not doing that great.  So much happened to her mind and body.  They are making the tough decision to swap out types of feeding tubes so she can be moved to a rehab facility.  She can nod her head, but not move her feet and arms.

Pray for that missing plane!  Pray for our leadership.  Pray for pastors.

Thank you for praying for me and my little family!

So..........

Tired. Drained. Back to not sleeping.

I am battling negative thoughts and hurt feelings. I wish I could put these swirling emotions into words.

Steve has been a rock these past few days. The time change has been very hard on mom and us!  So grateful for his strength.

We are going to take a weekend  on the 21st. More like a rest  .no specific plans. Melecia  is taking the extra hours to help pay fur medical bills.  This is one of those trips we can't afford but can't afford not to. Does that make sense? I got a good deal on a hotel using promo codes and coupons. This one was my idea...I need  the break.

Prayers...thoughts.

Rusty has a couple of job interviews.....pray the right job comes along.

Pray we have a good weekend! I need mom to behave, not fall, walk strong, and be able to get out just a little bit - it is supposed to be 65 tomorrow - so I am thinking it is doable.

Work has been busy - I see our peak season coming in.

I have been exercising - I am losing inches -not lbs.  Hmmmm..  But I do feel better - I would feel better if the numbers on the scale went down.  I found this one work out 10 minutes long - concentrating on legs and behind - it is some tough stuff. Girls and I did it here at work -and they are believers.  It feels like 30 minutes. With the exercising - I sleep better.

I am so blessed - God continues to provide and protect.

Tori travels this weekend with her Criminal Justice Group to Kansas City, MO to compete  - she is ready.  They will also be meeting with FBI and other recruiting agencies. She loves it.  So proud.

Sam cleaned out our garage, off our patio and his room  yesterday (under duress) but it looks much better.

Continue to pray for Steve's safety - every area that he works in, there is a shooting every day.  Whew.  Memphis - young men not raised the way they should be.  Pray for Memphis.

Pray for the Ukraine!

A set back...

Rusty did not start work. Monday the weather kept him home and they ok'd it. His truck broke down yesterday and ride did not show. Employer told him via unprofessional text he wasn't needed! Hmmph!

Pray he finds something soon.

She's back!

Melecia made it back after her mom's surgery. Ms. Betty broke her back. She is slowly recovering. Please pray for her and the family. It was like they rushed her out way too soon. And Obama care showed up...at first she was denied surgery due to age. Doctors and family had to fight for it!

Here is a pic of Melecia and mom. She is giving mom a manicure. All of is were excited to see her!

Snow..ice...brr..brr

We were hit hard. Nearly 50 degree drop in temperature on Sunday, add rain, sleet, thunder, lightening, you experienced every season. All said and done we ended up with six inches of ICE!

Our home from the street..

I worked from home Monday and Tuesday. I was about to go nuts / had pretty much been in the house since Friday.  Went in today. Side roads were horrible...once I made it to highway it was fine.

While outside I fell backwards hard on the ice..please pray my neck is killing me. I feel yuck!

Blessed we stayed warm and safe!

THOUGHTS, FEELINGS, PRAYERS, WEATHER AND MUSINGS

My nephew returns to work tomorrow.  Praise the Lord.  Diagnosed with Stage 3 testicular cancer in September - 100% cancer free today - God is so good.  So many prayers answered.

My friend Nancy - had reconstruction surgery this past week.  She is doing well.

I have been reading and watching a lot on Alzheimer's, trying to learn something new - to see if there is anything I can do.  Patience is key....something I seem to be short on here lately.  Mom seems to be more combative each day - and I truly thought we would be going other way by now.  I keep telling myself it is the disease and not mom.  My reaction is key.  My dad, his sister and two of mom's sisters had this hateful disease.  She has lived longer than any from diagnosis - has to be quality care.  And God - all God - not me.  But I am discouraged.  I am tired.  Yesterday - I was cleaning mom up - and I forgot her shirt - so I left her alone in bathroom for 1 minute - a minute long enough for her to pick up a hairbrush and hit me across face twice - I think something cracked.  I am in pain - have no clue what to do.  The pain is intense.

Today she has been sweet - - just a busy bee.  Good grief.  Into everything.  She has played with her babies, ate well, changed clothes, and took medicine - with no fuss.  Now, she is snoring in her bed - blankets up to her chin.

I would be lying if I didn't say I am battling resentment and anger - I put a post on Facebook asking for help - to help cover Melecia being out (The agency had no one) No family answered. But two friends did - so the gap was covered.  I had to pay - but I just knew I had to be at work. And I was right. Pray that the agency is able to find those interested in being subs - who may want to work part - time.  They find folks -but they are not passing back ground checks.  I am sure it is very frustrating for them.

I had two breaks this weekend -what a blessing!  Tori treated me to lunch and afterwards she suffered through grocery shopping.  And today, before it got real bad - I went to Sonic for my therapy drink.  Both helped considerably.  Steve's oldest came out for a visit yesterday.  It was nice to see him - please pray for him - no details - just pray.

I have washed so much laundry the past two days.  Melecia has me spoiled - while she was out with her mom - things I am so used to her doing - I had to do.  I so appreciate her.  Her mother, Betty, had trouble waking up from the anesthesia, but seems to be coming around.  She has remembered she broke her back.  She is staying with Melecia's sister.  Please pray for her continued recovery.  And for Melecia's sister - so many health issues of her own.

The kids are fine - Tori is home tonight - I am glad - she is snuggled in her room. Sam in his.

The weather is all whacked out - 65 degrees yesterday and this morning.  Now we are getting thunder and an Ice Storm - unreal.  State of Emergency for Shelby County has been issued, schools have been closed.  We have power - but the town of Brighton does not.  This area has seen much damage from falling limbs and such.

Thank you for allowing me to vent - I am blessed to have true friends.

Window blinds.....

Mom has torn up 4 sets of blinds.....

So we are trying this! I like!!!!  Better yet I paid $5 on the clearance table because it  wasn't in original packaging. Looks good!

And found this for the window in the same room. She doesn't touch this window. I have never hung up curtains in our house.....

THIS IS WORTH OF ITS' VERY OWN POST

Mom told Melecia to call me last Thursday and tell me she couldn't make it into work - that she had started her period - and just didn't feel good.

Bahahahahahahahahahaha

Moments like this are what makes others bearable.

ALZHEIMER'S ANTICS.....

Some funny....some not so funny.....some frustrating....some indescribable....

I was a brave soul twice this weekend - I was off on Friday - so I decided to take mom - mall walking I had her wheel chair - so we head out.

Every time we came up behind someone - she would say "beep beep, toot, toot," let me through. Since I was pushing the wheelchair - I could not pretend I wasn't with her.  Ha. Ha.

And yes, mom was mean before Alzheimer's geesh - and it comes through now.  She used to gripe and complain about everything - and the whole time out - that is what she did.  ARRRGGGHHHHHH.

After the mall - we make a trip to Sam's club - I bought detergent and such - no wheelchair - but she decides she can't walk anymore and makes herself fall...of course 20 people rush over - I caught her before she hit anything - but I knew she had done it on purpose.  A wheelchair appears - they baby her and make over her.  And she is a happy camper. Hmmph. Talk about manipulative.

Steve and I have used a full size bed since we have been married - we decided to switch to queen - or he did - initially I bought a new headboard, frame that could be either full or queen - I was happy.  Found it at a scratch sale - but he wanted a queen -so he decided to buy the mattress set - we get mom out again - we find one on sale- a super nice one - after negotiating and ad comparing....while we are in the store - mom says hello to everyone - I am thinking - "oh, she is sweet mode" - then she tells one lady - "you know I am peeing blood and I bleed out of my mouth - and they don't feed me or let me out the house."  The woman mouthed "Alzheimer's?" to me - and I nodded by head.

Oh, did I mention that while we were walking into above store- I  noticed mom was walking funny - weird funny - then she asks to go potty.  We get in the bathroom - out falls a roll of toilet paper.

After the mattress purchase - mom and I head to Walmart - to buy new sheets for bed - and to pick up a few things - mom is only good for a few things.  She totally acts ugly in the store - slaps the arm of the cashier who was trying to ring up the dog food.  I was mortified.  I apologized.  We walk out the door at Walmart and the cute little girls in pony tails - tell me that Thin Mints will make me feel better - who am I to argue? Then, of course mom says she is starving -  no way, no how am I getting out of the car with her again - so we go through the drive through -and I get her a sandwich. She has to sit in the back - it has child locks and she can't grab the wheel.  She eats half the sandwich and then decides to throw the rest at me.    SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, Praise the Lord, we get home, mom decides to do her fake fall - as there are neighbors outside again I am mortified. I get  her up and in the house. By the time I in the house- I am a blasted wreck.  I had to take a  nerve pill and sit outside and chill the heck out -everyone understood. Tori helped with mom - Steve and Sam took everything in.

I do have to mention she slept good all weekend long - getting her there was the challenge.  Bath time is a challenge - these are our most violent moments - where I am hit, kicked, slapped, in the bathroom yesterday I was trying to clean her up - she opened the cabinet drawer while I was bent down - and made it hit my head about five times - she knew what she was doing.  I so chewed her out.

Medicine is another challenge - she won't swallow it - keep in her mouth till it dissolves and she gags.  Or she will spit out.  Or if we crush and put in pudding or ice cream - she will hold in her mouth till she makes herself sick -  yesterday she spit out medicine and poured drink everywhere.

I have made the decision to care for mom - I am going to learn some new tricks and methods in handling the combativeness.  Just when I am on the verge of collapsing - I find renewed energy. Has to be God.  Steve's patience has improved greatly with mom - he gets very mad when she slaps me though.  So does Sam.  But my reaction and my attitude is key in handling mom - I have to do better in the patience department.  She is the one who is sick - I am not - I can control my actions.

I just ask for prayer for me and my family.  For mom - to have clearer days.

Hard to tell today.  Mom is into everything - and I am getting these reports second hand.

Whew!

Mom taking care of her babies and mopping

Mom spends the better part of each day taking care of her babies - - they may end up in different rooms -but she loves her babies.

She doesn't mom as much as she used to, but if she is antsy we will give her the mop and duster.

Bookcase

We had two smaller bookcases - one that mom pulled down a few times - we had to take it out - but what to do with the books?  I love my books!  We had another one in the living room.

My sister found a used one on a resale website - we bought it - and it sits proudly in the living room - away from mom's trail of walking - in place of one of the smaller one.  I just have a little stool in the hall way in place of the other.

WEEKEND WITH MOM

I am relieved and proud to say, I was not slapped, kicked, bit, hit, etc as much this weekend as those in the past!

Friday - she was pretty much up every hour on the hour after 1:30 - not misbehaving.  Just up!

Saturday - she woke up in a pleasant mood - I cleaned her up immediately.  She ate breakfast. She was just into everything.  She fell four times - thankfully she was not hurt - but she fell trying to do things she shouldn't have.  She is much like a two year old - you cannot take your eyes off her for one minute.  So, if I take a shower - I must have someone sit in the room with her.   She took a nap Saturday, and woke up to visitors in the house - Steve finally gave up his beloved VHS tapes - they were there picking them up - she freaked out - started screaming - was an absolute wreck.  Took us forever to get her calmed down.

Sunday - she was  a tad moody.  She fought taking a bath - so I waited for a bit - and started again - had to redirect her into her room.  But in that process she tore up her music box and took out pictures from frames.  All that is in a drawer for another day.  Finally got her all cleaned up and spiffy - she ate lunch - took a nap and then I had the BRILLIANT idea of taking her to the grocery store with me.
She immediately told them I was trying to kidnap her, she absolutely showed out.  I was worn out - and this was just our little local grocery store. Thankfully they know us - so I wasn't arrested.  Ha!  I then took her to Sonic - bought her favorite - a mini Strawberry milk shake - she asked for napkin - dipped it into her shake and started blotting me with the milk shake - I was so sticky when I got home.   I don't know who was more exhausted by the time we did arrive home - but she went to bed and slept all night. Praise the Lord!

I was so stressed - I did my exercise DVD - which is so much fun.  But I now have muscles that weren't there the other day - whew.  And it did relieve stress.  I felt much better after that and a hot shower.

Steve is putting up with a lot - I really thought mom would be past some of the stuff she does - he gets upset when she hits me. So does Sam.  They forget she doesn't know what she is doing.  And at times, I do too. So now we take a time out from each other - I lead her to her room and I sit in the recliner - no TV's on - just quiet - and that is working.  Reaction is key in handling mom.  She was never affectionate - now all she wants to do is hug, kiss and touch - and none of us are used to that - it almost freaks us out!  She was mean - and she is still mean - and cruel things will come out of her mouth.  Like I have said many a time - she is Box of Chocolates mom - you never know what mom you will have until the day begins - or the hour changes.

My other babies..........

 Barney
 Kylee

Sam and Barney - Best Buds!

My favorite cleaning products......

I posted on Facebook - but I am a nerd.  I like a clean house - and every now and then I will try new cleaning products.

Odoban - I have been using for some time now -but it is great -  on odors - especially the "teenage boy" smell - ugh. And it can actually be used as a cleaning product - I use it on door knobs, and smaller objects that need disinfecting.

The new Pledge - with Antibacterial ingredients.

And the newest Kaboom - I have been using for two weeks in our bathrooms and I really like it.

But also,  you can't beat good old fashioned bleach with elbow grease - I use it a lot.  I know it will clean and disinfect.

I have been working hard in the house decluttering, throwing out, donating, organizing, you name it.  I am going to have Sam scrub baseboards for me today - he doesn't know it yet - but he is good at it. Why waste a day off from school?  Ha!

No room has been left untouched.  Out home is not fancy, but it is home.  It is a nice house.   We are blessed.  God has provided during the hardest times.

Valentine's Day

I received two gifts....

Steve bought me a large ottoman to replace the glass coffee table that was hazard to mom.  We took it out a few weeks ago.  It is also a storage ottoman.  It now holds all our blankets - completely freeing up space - we have very little storage space. And I am not pack rat or clutter person.  I was so excited.  It  looks good!!  I am very proud of it.

And then on Friday - in the other office building, they called me over for some help, I went over - and they handed me a box of flowers.  I said "well, who are these from?"  Katie, said "We hope you already know!"  bahahahahahaha

THE SNOW

We received our requisite snow...... I am through now.

Rusty Update

Rusty came through surgery.  And is home - I can't believe it was outpatient.

He is in pain - and is a tad grouchy.  Ha.

He can return to work in about two weeks - and then we will wait to see if radiation is needed.

Thank you for prayers.

To Janis

You are an encourager - not a discourager!

I am blessed to know you - and call you friend.

UPDATE ON RUSTY

My nephew Rusty will have the least evasive surgery on Monday - this means they won't worry about lymph nodes - just the original tumor and the infected spot. He may need radiation - but we will know that about 6 weeks after at the surgery.  Recoup time for this surgery is two weeks. And God has answered a prayer - his employer called him and said he has a job waiting on him - and he literally just started this job. God is so good.

I cannot stress enough - if you have boys - to educate them on testicular cancer.  Please do so - it affects most between the ages of 15-32 - but we have seen articles on younger.  They need to be taught not to be embarrassed about talking about body changes. This needs to be taught in health classes, locker rooms -they teach young girls about breast cancer, PAP smears and ovarian cancer - we need to educate our boys.

Rusty could have been treated so much easier - the doctor found the initial tumor during a physical - and could not get treatment because of no insurance.  His cancer doctor said he wishes he could talk to that doctor.  Hmmph!

Thank you for your continued prayers.  Rusty has been fighting since September - with a low cure rate to start to 94% cured in December.

Pray also his heart softens and sees God's work.

REARRANGING - CHANGE....FLEXIBILITY...PAJAMAS...CARPET...TEETH...HORMONES...EARS.....OKAY RANDOMNESS

If you know anything about me - I do not rearrange furniture - one new picture or doo-dad can throw me for a loop.

Since mom has moved in - we've had to mom proof the house - I took out the coffee table - it was glass and she kept falling and tripping on it - she was about to give me a blasted heart attack.  It found a good home with my friend Diane.

I have had to take the bookcase out of the hallway - she has pulled it down three times. It isn't a tall one - it was one my Aunt Evie gave to me.  But it is heavy.  We are buying a used tall one to take the place of the one in our living room  - and will put all books there.  (I have a lot of books) This wall is out of any walkway - and behind a chair - and so far a mom free zone.  I put the one from the hallway into Tori's room - and put all her books on there (she had more than I realized)  - and since I am at this point - I cleaned her room - it was a disaster - by the time I finished I was livid.  Hmmph.  Oh well.

In the hallway I put a tall reading lamp with a low wattage light bulb and the basket of mom's games and toys.  So far no falling and tripping.  It does leave the hall way more open.

We also bought a 42" high baby gate - with a swing door - should arrive tomorrow- we will put up between kitchen and living room - the kitchen is an accident waiting to happen for mom - falling, blinds, pulling stuff out of cabinets, you name it. I am sure it is going to be a huge thing for all of us to get used to.

Safety knobs on the stove, door knob covers on doors, stop signs that literally read "stop - this is hot"  or "stop - stay inside," a baby monitor so we can hear her at night.

I say all this - because I have stepped out of comfort zone - and becoming more flexible.  No room for complete OCD in my world. Or any OCD for that matter.

Mom has had a good week.  I bought her some more pajama pants - Eyore and Hello Kitty ones from Walmart.  We are putting her more in sweats and pj's if we are not going anywhere - for her comfort and our convenience  It is easier to get her in bed if we don't have to change her - they are warm.  A win win for everyone. But I am telling you know in her normal, sane days - she never would have worn pajama pants - no way!  I have fun with it.  I may go get a couple for pair - they are $5 - and with nighttime accidents - the are coming in handy.

Her appetite is better - she looks better and her color is better.  She feels good - just doesn't make a bit of sense when she talks.  She has a fear of the commode and a fear of falling.  No clue how to handle that one.  I am reading.

I know carpet/flooring is not a necessity - but in a way it is.  I need flooring - I would like laminate - throughout the rest of the bedrooms and the hallway - easier to clean - it is in our living - room - just no $ right now.  It is safe to say - our carpet is ruined because of mom's many accidents. I try to keep it clean - but it is a losing battle.

My teeth - this is the year - has to be - she knocked out another tooth the other day - caught be my surprise - I didn't see that fist coming.  I just don't know how to approach it - when I was a finalist for the dental make over contest  - the dentist said the best thing would be dentures or partials - because of the strength or lack of in my jaw bones - from years of TMJ.  Plus they would be the most cost effective.  I just feel so embarrassed and a failure. I got to get Sam going too - he is going to need braces.

My hormones are all messed up - this the week of my cycle - but no cycle yet.  And I just called by doctor yesterday about permanent birth control.  I still take BCP - but know I need to get off.

I went to doctor yesterday - my ear drum ruptured.  Lovely - plus ears full of infection.  OWWWWW.  And the whole scale thing depressed me - got to rethink my plan - my clothes are looser -but the numbers are not dropping - I guess I am losing inches or something like that.  geesh.

As you can see, like any woman - I have dozens of things on my mind.....

Thank you for allowing me to vent.  Thank you for praying.

IRON STOMACH

In this journey of Alzheimer's, I had to learn many things.  I have needed to change my way of thinking and doing things....I have become more flexible and less picky about my house.  No choice.

I have also developed a strong stomach.  And if you say you will never be able to do it - you are fooling yourself - because you can - and most likely will at some point - hey especially if you are a mom - you have seen and smelled many things!

Mom has issues with potty - she will not sit on the potty - this is a struggle - to get her to sit is a miracle - we can hold hands, sing, talk, read books - with mixed success.  The very first time we  had a big mess I got sick - threw up big time- no more!  I have an iron stomach - or something like that.

Last night before bed time - we  had success - or so we thought.

1.04 am.  Tori knocks on my door - she said  "mema needs you." (Tori just got home from work)  I get up - and realize we had a potty 911 - big time.  Bless her heart.  Poopie everywhere on her and her bed - even the bed skirt!  Tori is trying to cover her nose and help.  And she finally gives in - puts on gloves - helps me strip bed and mema - I get mom in tub - washed, dried, changed and Tori settles her on the couch so I can get bedding changed (I so need some full size sheet sets)  - I literally, because her bedding is so messy and yuck - just put them in garage - I start the washing machine.   (I threw one blanket away - it was that bad!)

I had to look for another set of sheets - and if you know me I am OCD about this - but I couldn't help it - they didn't match - the fitted was GI Joe and the flat was pink - (so funny) but they worked - found blankets  (need some of those too!)  - by 2:15 - we get mom back in bed.

This morning - the bedding was finished washing - Melecia, bless her heart, put everything back.

She kissed my hand - and said thank you, I love you.
